Kids Helpline

Friendship & Empathy

On Monday, students in Years 3-6 met with Brooke from Kids Helpline.

Topics for the session included:

  • Empathy
  • Know how to be a good friend
  • Understand the difference between healthy/unhealthy friendships
  • Practice conflict resolution strategies

The session taught us about Kids Helpline and how to access help and support if needed.

As a group, we discussed what a healthy friendship looks like, feels like and sounds like. Some of the suggestions were:

  • Spending time together but also time apart
  • Fun, giggling and laughing
  • You don't want to leave them
  • Safe and secure
  • Talking but not always having to agree

We also talked about ways we can all be empathetic to everyone here at school. Ideas included:

  • Care about each other's feelings
  • Ask how people are
  • Watch the emotions of others
  • Help people if they are upset
  • Listen to what people have to say
  • Trust in others and be trustworthy
  • Stand up for others
