Principal's Notes

Dear Parents and Families,

This week has been another busy week at school with lots of rehearsals for the Eisteddfod. Thursdays performance went beautifully and I was incredibly proud of all our students. Special thanks to Mrs Huf for preparing our students in such a short time. Thank you to all our family and friends who came and watched the Eisteddfod. Our school certainly received the biggest applause and cheers!

Also, a big thank you to James Huf and the Crawford family for helping move the marimbas and instruments in and out of Hamilton.  We battled rain but successfully managed the trips without getting the instruments wet!

Public Holiday - Queen's Birthday

Monday the 13th of June is a public holiday for Victoria. Please enjoy the extra long weekend and spending time with family and friends. Travel safe on the road if you are heading away.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Year 4, 5 and 6 completed their annual Attitudes to School Survey this morning. This helps the school to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. This included questions about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer and family relationships, resilience, bullying, mental health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. This year there were many more questions about their mental health and resilience, as this a big focus for the Department of Education, particularly concerning the long term effects of remote learning and lockdowns.

Student Reports

The teachers have been busy writing reports and they will be sent out on Thursday 23rd of June. We have returned to a similar format from previous semester reports (pre-remote learning). At this stage, they will be still paper-based but we are looking at electronically for the end of the year.

Heat Up Lunches

Could parents please ensure that students only bring a heat up lunch for the microwave on Monday only. We are unable to have a dozen children wanting heat up lunches every day, as we cannot supervise our classes plus heat up lunches.  Thank you for your understanding.

Lions Club paper truck loading

The Cavendish Lions Club have a paper truck to load on Sunday 19th June.  Any help from 10am onwards would be much appreciated.  The Lions Club are amazing supporters of the Cavendish PS (recently donated $500.00) and we would love to be able to hear reports back that there were some school families there helping them out.  If you have an hour or so spare on the 19th please please go along and lend a hand.

School Council Meeting

Our next meeting is Wednesday 15th of May at 7pm at the school.

School Photos

We have booked in our School Photos for Tuesday 19th July.  Students will be required to wear their winter uniform (same as they wore for the Eisteddfod).  Envelopes will be sent out when we receive them.

Baimbridge College visit

On Wednesday Ms Adams (Year 7 Co-ordinator) and Ruby Packman from Baimbridge College visited the school to talk about transition to secondary school to the Year 5/6 class. The Year 5 students are off to Baimbridge next Tuesday 14th of June for their first transition day. All Year 5 students have received their information about the visit. it was lovely to see Ruby back at school and share her insights into secondary school life.

Visit

We had a visit from Hank during the week, Edith and Cooper’s new puppy. He is very cute and well-behaved.

Congratulations to Evie Longcor and Edith Leese on 75 nights of reading.

Have a lovely long weekend,

Lisa Ferrier
