AMAZING STAFF STORIES -

Not just a talented Musician!!

Mr Mears
Mr Mears

With some ISO time I came across our own very talented Mr Mears who has shared his running story on the The Athlete’s Foot page and ad’s! Many would not be aware that Mr Mears is a transplant survivor having had a liver transplant nearly 10 years ago. It is an amazing and inspirational story that I encourage all students, families and staff to watch. Congratulations Mr Mears you are a great role model to us all and this should help us all to get the urge to get moving whether a walk, ride or run!

ACC Updates

With the current Stage 3 restrictions it is of no surprise that ALL ACC EVENTS/SPORT have been cancelled for TERM 3. This will be very disappointing news for students, as it is for staff. The ACC Executive will meet later in the term to look at commencing Term 4 Sport as scheduled.

House Sports

We are considering a number of ways we can keep house sport operating during this remote time. Next week we hope to have a number of links where students can access familiar Mazenod activities and follow some of our regular presenters. For example, stretching and breathing classes with Sarah and MMA with David are being considered. We will also start up a running challenge with prizes for each year level. Please keep an eye on MazCom under the Sports tile.  You can already find a number of great interactive videos to follow.

Physical Education Classes

As some students in Years 11 and 12 will be involved in physical education classes, the college executive will permit a student to wear their sports uniform to school on the days the student has a physical education class.   For many students, this will mean wearing their sports uniform to school twice a week - sports day and physical education lesson day. Homeroom teachers will monitor this to ensure students are wearing the correct uniform each day.

We would also like to thank F45 Mulgrave who have been of great assistance to our students and staff providing great workouts online during our PE times for junior classes. Students are aware of their times to join in.

ACC Challenges

As per lockdown 1 the ACC have put together a number of new challenges for students across the 11 ACC Colleges to participate in. They are great activities that promote health, both physical and mental. They can be accessed at the ACC website on www.accmelb.com.au where students can register to run around Australia or be involved in some sports trivia as well as be involved in some positive mindset challenges. You can get access to some of these by using the following links:

College Gym

Students have been asking when they can get back into the gym and start lifting weights again. Unfortunately, due to current state guidelines, the gym is closed to all students after school. Due to the confined space and cleaning, it is impossible for us to let the gym open safely. We will follow state protocols and look to possibly opening the gym after August 19th. We thank all the students for their patience with this.

One On One Coaching

AFL Coach & Former Mazenod Teacher Mr Damian Carroll

In these uncertain times with the structure of junior football under review, former Mazenod staff member and current Hawthorn Assistant coach Mr Damian Carroll is available for individual tuition and guidance for a fee. The opportunity to get advice from someone at the elite level is invaluable and could make a huge difference in helping guide your football future. The program can involve some 1 on 1 coaching and skill sessions. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity please contact me at the college with your details and I will pass them onto Damian. Email Mr Connolly at: aconnolly@mazenod.vic.edu.au
