Principal's message

It has been a great fortnight with students undertaking and accomplishing some challenging tasks in the classroom. Our synthetic phonics approach to reading is proving to be an effective tool in improving student literacy and the collective gains are pleasing. Students have confidence in their teachers and in their own ability to learn new concepts and are curious as to how this happens. In the yard the students are happy and play together with positivity and pride. Students and staff continue to practice high levels of hygiene practice which includes regular hand washing and sanitation. We continue to employ a full time cleaner whose sole job is to continually sanitise high use areas of the school.

COVID-19: With the current trend in confirmed cases it may be only a matter of time before we return to Remote Learning. This decision, should it arise, will be made at the state level and we will be given directions on how to manage this.

Drop off and Pick up: Just a reminder that when you drop off in the morning or pick up after school, the areas adjacent to the school crossing are not for parking. Our supervisor Gordon, has asked me to let you know that he can’t see approaching vehicles if you are parked next to the crossing posts! Let’s all help Gordon do his job to keep our students safe!

Green Day: Our student leaders have continued to participate in their Leaders Congress project throughout the pandemic. They have committed to support a local charity, the Gillin Boys Foundation for Muscular Dystrophy Awareness. Friday August 14th will be ‘Green Day’ where students and staff can dress in green to raise awareness of the amazing work the Gillin boys are doing to make a difference in our community. Rather than a gold coin donation, the JSC will use some of the proceeds from their blanket sale to donate to the cause. Thank you to the many families who have returned an ‘Expression of Interest’ form for a blanket or two. Official order forms that will include payment details will be out shortly.

2020 Enrolments: With the current pandemic situation upon us, all schools have had to alter enrolment processes for 2021 preps. At this point in time all school tours are off. All enrolment papers can be emailed to the school or dropped off to me at the gate in the mornings or afternoons. If you know of someone who has a prep aged child please remind them that the new enrolment process is underway!

Thank you to everyone for your understanding and patience during these ever changing times.
