News from Nurse Jess
To our Yarrabah families,
Well we have survived another week of Stage 4 restrictions even though the weeks appear long we are making progress as a community and am thankful for everyone playing their part. I hope you are finding ways to get out, have a break and clear your mind with your one hour exercise a day. Although it doesn’t seem long sometimes it’s enough to reset the mind to take on the rest of the day.
It’s been wonderful to see so many of the students engaging in the activities through videos and photos on Seesaw. Those smiley faces make it evident that as a parent/carer you are doing an amazing job! Remembering that now is the time to focus on maintaining our health and wellbeing and doing what you need to do as a family unit to get through these difficult times. My children and I have enjoyed watching movies from my childhood over the weekend this has been a wonderful way for me to relive childhood memories and share in the joy of them seeing the movie for the first time.
I stumbled across a wonderful resource this week! Although I advise against “Dr Google” there are certain scenarios where you do need some clarification around a topic or would love some more info on a particular condition. Royal Children’s Hospital has wonderful, informative and accurate fact sheets on their website which are a great resource for parents/carers. I have just discovered they have created an app which has all these factsheets at your finger tips and it’s FREE! It is so easy to use you simply type in keywords you want information on then it brings up all the relevant fact sheets! Having reliable information to read could help ease your mind or help determine whether further medical advice is required. See picture below for App details.
Wishing you all another safe and healthy week

Update of Medical Records
Dear Yarrabah families,
I am currently in the process of updating our records to ensure they accurately indicate the medical needs of your child. Having up to date medical information is important to enable myself and the Yarrabah staff to best support and care for your child whilst they are at school. Having all this information is also vital in the case of an emergency to pass onto emergency services. Please click on the link below to fill out a quick form that will allow me to update our records. This form is confidential and can only be viewed by me. If you want to discuss your child's needs further please don't hesitate to contact me via email. I may contact you if I require further clarification around the information provided.
Thank you
Jess

Free reusable face masks for Victorians with disability
People in Victoria who need care and support can now get two free face masks from their service provider or GP. The Department of Health and Human Services will be distributing 2.1 million reusable face masks to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
People in Victoria can get the free face masks if they:
- have a disability
- have a serious health problem
- have a mental health condition
- live in public housing
- are homeless
- live in supported accommodation.
Where can you get the masks?
You can get the masks from your support services, providers, your GP or your pharmacy. Service organisations can order the masks from the Department of Health and Human Services. Organisations don’t have to order the masks though, so if your service provider doesn’t have them, you can ask your pharmacy or GP.
The masks are made of cloth and will need to be washed after each time you wear them.
It may take some time before everyone has their cloth masks. You might be given some disposable masks while you wait for your cloth masks to be ready.
Managing Unwell Students
One of the most important things we can do to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community is to stay at home when we are unwell, even when we have the mildest of symptoms. Please read the attached factsheet for more information.
