The Power of Books

Since we’ve all been in lock down we cannot overestimate the absolute power and sheer joy of reading. It offers all of us an escape, to bury our heads in a book for a while and just simply enjoy it.  Books enrich our lives in so many ways.  

Non Fiction: 'Surprising Stories Behind Everyday Stuff'

National Geographic Kids have a new release titled 'Surprising Stories Behind Everyday Stuff'. The book is packed with amazing facts, wacky ideas and weird backstories behind the things we use every day.  Find out about familiar foods, common clothing items, kitchen utensils, spectacular sports and everything in-between.

Fiction: 'The Peski Kids Near Extinction' by R. A Spratt

When the Peski kids are around nothing is normal! April, Fin, Joe and Loretta get into situations on the Currawong Primary School annual geography excursion to the Dinosaur Park. Lots of light-hearted fun and problem solving, that is before they catch criminals, hijack the school bus and get bitten by a dinosaur! This is book 4 in The Peski Kids series and worth a look if you’re after a fun action packed read.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The PRC continues and has now been extended to give students more time to devour some books! One great way for students to engage with reading over this time is for them to set a goal of what they would like to achieve! A few of our students have already recorded over 50 books on the PRC. NOTE: Books must be marked as finished or the coordinator does not know to verify them. You need to add the book and then mark it as finished for it to count to your total!
