VCE Update

VCE Update

It has been an unprecedented year for all of us but it has been a particularly tumultuous year for Year 12 students. However, BHHS is very proud of our Year 12s and the resilience they have demonstrated in coping with remote teaching and learning as well as missing out on many of the usual celebratory events experienced by previous Year 12 graduates. No one will ever forget 2020 and in particular, the experience of the Class of 2020.

We now have some certainty around how the rest of the year will look for Year 12, subject to the continued improvement in the number COVID cases.

Calculation of the ATAR

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) will introduce a new ‘Consideration of Educational Disadvantage’ process to calculate VCE scores, taking into account disruptions to learning this year.

The VCAA will consider a range of data provided by schools, together with each student’s exam results.

The data will include:

  1. An Expected Score at graded assessment level for internal assessment (provided by teachers) – what the score the student would have been expected to attain if they had suffered no disadvantage
  2. An Expected Grade for each external assessment (provided by teachers)  – what the grade the student would have been expected to attain if they had suffered no disadvantage.
  • the General Achievement Test (GAT)
  • a range of statistical analyses used to calculate final results.

Health Controls for VCAA Exams

The health, wellbeing and safety of students and staff is our top priority during this time. The Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health and Human Services have worked closely together to ensure schools are provided with clear and up-to-date advice about arrangements for the conduct and administration of the GAT as well as examinations. All health controls will be implemented at Box Hill High School during the exam period including a maximum of one person per four square metres, cleaning and disinfection of shared equipment between groups of students and wearing of masks by all students and staff.
