Virtual Soiree #1 Now Available For Watching

EDSC Music is proud to announce the first of our Virtual Soirées for your viewing pleasure at home. We hope this will become a fortnightly event, advertised in the school Newsletter.

The first 30-minute concert features VCE Music Performance students Tintin (violin), Jully (clarinet), Aarya  (guitar), Shawn  (piano), Cameron  (bassoon) and Jessie  (piano) and is available to view by clicking on the following 'Virtual Soiree #1' button below

‘Virtual Concerts’ Invitation

While the first of our virtual concerts features VCE Music Performance students who have been pre-recorded in performances at school, we would also like to invite all of our student musicians to prepare a video-recorded performance from home and send it to their teacher for approval. Please make your video performances as formal as possible (ie. not in a bedroom), play with a recorded accompaniment if possible, and film in horizontal format, not vertical/portrait. Recording on a smartphone or iPad/tablet is usually fine unless the device is very old.

With Cycle 4 assessments and possible AMEB exams approaching, there should be quite a few students with pieces at various standards ready to ‘perform’. Remember you do not need to be advanced to prepare a great performance at your particular level.

Remote Learning Camera Reminder

We are noticing some students not turning their cameras on during this period of remote learning. Students (and parents) should understand that the effectiveness of an instrumental music lesson is extremely limited when teachers cannot give guidance on posture, fingering, bowing or other factors which are only determinable when students can be seen. We again encourage students to be suitably dressed and situated in an appropriate room where turning cameras on does not cause any privacy issues. Teachers will be giving much more effective feedback to those students who they can see during the music lesson.

AMEB Practical Exams

For anybody planning to complete an Australian Music Examinations Board exam this year, enrolments for the final Session (5) close on 18 August. While the AMEB are still hoping to run these examinations ‘live’ in October through November, this could change. Another option for candidates who are doing AMEB exams this year is a video submission, and these can be submitted at any time once you have enrolled. Video exams are repertoire-only with no technical work.

Please communicate with your child’s instrumental music teacher if you have any questions about practical AMEB exams on their instrument.
