In the classroom Room 1 & Room 3

In the first week of Term 3, the Year 6's from Rooms 1 and 3 learnt about the structure and language features of different forms of poetry. We focused on cinquain poems that were about ‘Bubbles’ and to assist us with writing our poetry and to help us improve our language choices, Room 3 also experimented with bubbles outside. It was a lot of fun and the creativity and words that both classes came up with were unimaginable.

Then the exciting part came, finally using the green screen! It was so fun, first, we found background photos of a bubble and had to figure out what pose to do in front of the green screen. We then took photos in front of the green screen, some students found it embarrassing but they eventually got used to it. After the photoshoot, we used the app called Pages and imported the picture of our bubble and the photo we took. To remove the green part of the photo, we used the editing tool called ‘Instant alpha’. We were then able to do a free-choice poem. Overall, this activity was really exciting and we really enjoyed improving our technical skills and displaying our poetry in a unique way.

Year 6 – Maritime Museum Immigration Stories Excursion

In Week 2, all the Year 6 students went to the Maritime Museum to complete the Immigration stories excursion program to enhance our history unit on Migration. The students learnt about 6 different people who migrated to Australia from the 1920s to1970s. The excursion was very interactive and the students were involved in investigating artefacts to uncover stories, recreating historical scenes, and playing games to learn interesting facts about the migrants. It was an extremely informative and enjoyable excursion.
