Principal's Report

Transition to Remote Learning

Well, here we are again.  Whilst remote learning is not the preferred option for most, well done to everyone for adapting so well and settling into round 2. We hope efforts to ease our way in have made the process more manageable for students, staff and parents and we certainly hope the transition back to learning from home has been smooth for your family.

We understand this is not easy for parents.  Everyone’s situation is different, and for some the circumstances are extremely difficult. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

The feedback from teachers is certainly suggesting that students have done a great job settling back into remote learning.

As mentioned in last week’s broadcast, you will notice a few changes to the delivery of remote learning this time round.  Those changes have been made after listening to feedback from students, parents and staff. In particular, you will notice changes relating to:

  • The way students see and access learning tasks on Compass.
  • How our specialist teachers engage with students.
  • Opportunities for students to connect socially.
  • The way feedback is provided to students.

It is our intention to give everyone the opportunity to complete a quick survey mid-way through this remote learning period to make sure we are on track.

Hopefully the Covid-19 situation across the state and in our region will stabilise and improve, meaning current arrangements won’t be required beyond term 3.  We will keep you informed of updates as they come through.

All the best for learning from home over the coming week.

Friday Broadcasts

Our Friday broadcasts are going to continue throughout this remote learning period.  Please encourage your child/ren to watch the broadcast on a Friday afternoon, as this is a nice way of finishing off the school week.

Thanks in advance to everyone for sending in photos that enable us to share some of the great things happening during remote learning in different households.

At this week's broadcast we would like to share some of the wonderful work that is taking place around the school in relation to the specialist program and the Lego challenge.

If you would like to share your child's work, please email Scott via scott.mcglynn@education.vic.gov.au with your child's work photo and one of the following statements written in the subject line:

  • Specialist Photo for Broadcast - Child's Name
  • Lego Photo for Broadcast - Child's Name

Given the nature of producing the broadcast, unfortunately any submissions after 4pm on Thursday may not make the cut.

Support for those Facing Financial Hardship

As mentioned last term, we understand that a number of families face financial hardship at this time due to lost employment and/or a general down-turn in business.  We would like to support families doing it tough by helping with costs associated with sending your child to Buninyong PS in 2020.  This has been made possible by local organisations that are wanting to help in these difficult times.  If your income has been significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and you are struggling to make ends meet, please give me a call. All related discussions will be highly confidential.

Transition from Kinder to Prep

Recently we mentioned having to re-think our transition program due to restrictions caused by Covid-19. We are now close to having completed a virtual tour and thank all involved in helping us pull this together.  Having access to this will be comforting to parents and children who are yet to have an association with the school.

We are also working with the local kinder to figure out what the transition process might look like between now and the end of the year.

If you have a child to enrol in prep for 2021, please grab an enrolment form from the website, fill it out and send it in.  Once your child is enrolled, you’ll be on the mail out list for transition updates. Please pass this message on to anyone else who may be in the same situation.  Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.
