VCE & VCAL: Satisfactorily meeting Attendance and Work Requirements

The Victorian Government has given the directive that all Year 11 and 12 VCE and VCAL students should be attending school to prevent any further disruption to their final years of learning.

While we understand that some students may be absent from school as they or someone in the family may be health compromised, the following conditions must be considered to ensure that they can meet the VCE or VCAL outcomes as specified by VCAA (the governing curriculum body):

  • No requirements are expected of teaching staff to provide additional remote learning opportunities to senior students.
  • Students will need to complete all work as outlined in Compass lesson plans/Learning Tasks, be up to date and meet the minimum level of competency once the teacher has assessed their work
  • Students will be responsible for staying in contact with their teachers while not attending classes through email and Teams messages to seek the necessary support that they require
  • Students may be able to meet virtually with their student group while in the planning phases of a project and provide evidence of their interaction through this process
  • There will be times when Outcomes are being presented or a SAC Assessment being completed that the student will need to physically attend school to either actively participate in sessions or lead sessions with their peers. This attendance is essential and non-negotiable if students are wanting to be assessed according to the Learning Outcomes.

Whilst we acknowledge that these requirements may cause some anxiety, our teachers continue to be guided by the VCAA and advice provided by the Victorian Government. Teachers are required to assess all students professionally and according to the students’ level of competency in satisfying these learning outcomes.

In these highly unusual times, we understand your decision in relation to your student’s attendance. Unfortunately, in the event that your student does not adhere to the guidelines above they will be unable to meet the specified requirements, which  will result in them not meeting their outcomes or showing competency and therefore will adversely impact upon whether they achieve their current VCAL/VCE certificate.

We reassure you that we are complying with the advice provided by the Health Department and the Victorian Government in relation to monitoring who is onsite at school, encouraging the ongoing use of hand sanitiser, temperature checks for all staff, students and visitors onsite and requesting that individuals who are sick remain at home. We hope that your student can return to onsite, face-to-face learning as soon as possible.

The Course Counselling Process

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teachers, students and their families for their active involvement in the Course Counselling Process this year. Conducting these interviews online this year, was an interesting and challenging process. However, for the first time we had all parents and students involved in this process up to the Year 12 level, reflecting on their current progress, engaging in meaningful conversations and decision making related to their students’ future.

Are you studying a VET subject 2021?

If you are studying VCAL or a VET subject in 2021 your VET application form should have been returned along with the 50% deposit. Avoid missing out on your preferred course – as your preference will not be entered without payment of the 50% deposit. Final payment is due on Friday 18 September 2020.

Semester 1 Reports

A reminder to all students and families that Semester 1 reports were released on Friday 17 July. These can be accessed via Compass under the “Report” tab. Please take the time to read through the report with your student, taking note of the suggestions for improvement, which will provide helpful information to guide future learning.

If you are having difficulty accessing your Compass, please contact the Front Office or Senior School Office to have your password reset.
