ATSI News

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kara Spicer. At the beginning of Term 3, I stepped into the role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Focus Teacher.  This is in conjunction with my teaching role in the HSIE Faculty at McCarthy for the past four years. In my new role, I will be joining the team with Lisa Smith and Madeleine Simmond-Cutts to assist and aid McCarthy’s First Nations students.

Secondly, from the beginning of Week 3, we will be commencing the Personal Learning Plan meetings with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Once these meetings have been completed, the Personal Learning Plans will be sent home either by email or in the mail as a hard copy for family collaboration, to be reviewed and signed. If at this point, or at any point, there are any questions or queries about these meetings, please don’t hesitate to contact Lisa, Madeleine or myself through our emails or by phoning the College.

Finally,  in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Year Meetings that were held in Week 1 we talked about applications for the Student Council. The written application forms can be obtained from Lisa, Madeleine or myself. We will review the written applications and then select students to progress to an oral interview. We look forward to establishing this Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Council at McCarthy.
