Technical & Applied Studies

Students in Stage 4 Mandatory Technology have enjoyed practical experiences across a range of specialisations during the last weeks of Semester 1 and have now rotated into their new specialist area for Semester 2. We have been fortunate to tap into the expertise of our AEW’s who have assisted the students with weaving projects and Mrs Monet shared her special tips and tricks with Year 8 making French pastries!

At the heart of the Technology subjects is a term you may have heard before, Project Based Learning. It is a methodology of learning that relies on students working through design processes and challenges appropriate for their stage. It encourages critical thinking in order to develop solutions to identified problems and situations. Creative thinking is fostered to explore novel and varied possibilities and an understanding of contemporary and advancing technologies developed to assist in production. The diverse range of practical experiences is a key feature of TAS subjects offering students a different way of learning and applying newly developed skills.

On behalf of our TAS Faculty, Mrs Maxworthy will speak with Year 10 students about the variety of courses we have on offer in Stage 6 for 2021. We encourage all students to consider selecting a TAS subject in their pattern of study for Year 11 so they can enjoy the variety and benefits of Project Based Learning.
