Start Up Strings Program
Would your child like to learn the VIOLIN, CELLO or DOUBLE BASS* next year?
For 26 years the Ivanhoe Primary Strings Program has invited year 2 students to
learn a string instrument by joining START UP STRINGS (formerly Grade 2
Strings).
START UP STRINGS is a group for beginning students to learn the
fundamentals of violin or cello while playing in a large group with their peers.
The lessons provide instruction for good technique while being fun and
engaging.
Due to the difficulties of 2020, START UP STRINGS was run quite differently. As
no one is sure what next year holds with regards to coronavirus regulations we
will outline how the program has run in previous years and keep you informed
of any changes as they unfold.
START UP STRINGS PROGRAM OUTLINE
VIOLINS are available for hire for 1 year
CELLOS are available for hire for 2 years
DOUBLE BASS* is available for hire for 5 years
*There is only 1 position available for a Double Bass student in 2021. If you are interested in Double Bass please contact Liz Bonetti 0422 628 306 for further details.
TERMS 1-3
START UP STRINGS - Mondays and Thursdays 8:10 -8:50 am
8:10 am – 8:15am arrive for tuning, set up and individual attention
8:20 am - group begins
Lessons are based on an 8 week term however the program often extends for extra weeks. Assume START UP STRINGS is on unless you are notified in advance.
VIOLIN students receive two Group Lessons a week in the Hall with violin teachers - Annelies Billeter and Liz Bonetti.
CELLO students receive two Group Lessons a week in the Music Room
Cello teacher - Helen Mountford.
After several introductory lessons the violins and cellos combine. As they learn, the large START UP STRINGS group is accompanied on piano by IPS music teacher Marie Morrow. Within weeks we are giving little performances to ourselves or any parents who might be listening!
TERM 4
Students receive one 30 minute Individual Lesson per week in school time (8 weeks) and one before school START UP STRINGS group lesson per week (Mondays 8:10am)
Individual lessons are in school hours, the time chosen in consultation with the students class teacher.
COST OF THE PROGRAM
The term fees are payable through COMPASS and may be paid in two instalments
if desired. Term 1 invoice is sent in the first week of Term 1.
Term 2-4 invoices are sent in the last week of the proceeding term.
Year 1 families are invited to send an expression of interest
by Friday 20th November to
