On the road

Last week I headed out with Ms Heidi Anthony to Dubbo, Gilgandra, Armatree and Coonamble. It was wonderful to be able to catch up with some of our current boarding families and those who are joining the Kinross Wolaroi community over the next couple of years.

Thank you to the families who joined us, and we look forward to further visits in 2021. We hope all goes well for the harvest and that it is a good one for you all; it is well-deserved.

Remembrance Day

On Wednesday 11 November the School community will be commemorating the signing of the peace agreement that brought an end to the First World War. It is a time for us all to remember and honour the memory of those the men and women who served, are currently serving and those who have been lost in conflicts. This year will see anniversaries for several conflicts where Australian troops have played a significant role; these include:

  • The end of the Second World War
  • The beginning of the Korean War
  • The Battle of Shah Wali Kot (Afghanistan)
  • The Battle of Derapet (Afghanistan)

Upcoming exams

There has been some very good information shared through Mentors regarding revision and study techniques. I would encourage parents to chat with your children about this and ask how they are using these approaches ahead of their upcoming exams.

It is important to reiterate that achievement in the exams is absolute rather than relative. It matters how they do, not how everybody else does. Given the year that we have had it is important to encourage our students to view these results as a part of this year’s learning and not the sole judge. I have written to the Y7-11 students and asked them to reach out to their teachers and Mentors if they need assistance – they are here to help. It is important that they support each other and the power of a kind word or a simple check-in cannot be underestimated.

It is important that our students continue with their sporting commitments during the exam period and strike a balance between study, exercise and rest. I look forward to seeing our students in their various co-curricular pursuits over the coming weeks and hope that the weather settles to allow games and fixtures to occur.

I wish our students all the very best for their exams and simply ask that they give their best.
