LUNCH TIME HOUSE GAMES- For Fun and Fitness

Over the next few weeks, each sports ‘house’ will hold lunchtime games for children of that colour house. The games are organized and run by the House Captains and student leaders. This provides them with the opportunity to practice and develop leadership and team work skills. The leaders will be encouraging ALL students of the house to join in the fun so the best way to recognize who is in the ‘house’ is to wear the house colour.

Why are we running lunchtime House Games?

  • To develop a sense of community in students so they get to meet and play with students other than their normal friendship groups (expanding friendships and connections)
  • To promote activity and fitness.
  • To provide a range of opportunities for students to practice leadership
  • To have fun

What does my child have to wear?

On the day that your child’s house has lunch time games, please encourage them to wear anything from their wardrobe in that colour. It could be one or more of the following:

  • A tee shirt or jumper in the house colour
  • Shorts, pants, bike shorts of the house colour
  • A hat or beanie or ribbons in hair of the house colour.

Please do NOT spray paint hair, of face paint as it’s just a fun lunchtime activity.

When will the House Games be held?

Games will be run in the second half of lunch (so choir students don’t miss out)

Wednesday 1st August = Blue House

Wednesday 8thAugust = Red House

Wednesday 15th August = Gold House

Wednesday  22nd August = Green House.

Wednesday 5th September – ALL houses.

What games will the children play?

House Captains run a house meeting for students in years 4, 5 and 6.  At this meeting, the students decide which games they’ll play and who will organise and run the games as a leader.

Blue House have chosen to play:

  • Football – using the whole oval
  • Netball- using the courts on the asphalt
  • Soccer- using the moveable nets – next to the junior playground
  • Parachute games – outside the music room
  • ‘Rob the Nest’ – on the basketball court.
  • Tennis- in the hall.

THE GRAND FINAL OF LUNCHTIME GAMES

When all houses have had a turn running their own games (getting to know each other and build team spirit), there will be a lunchtime where ALL houses wear their colours and participate on the same day.

This will be held during lunch on Wednesday 5th September.

Community Spirit House Points

All children who choose to participate in their House organized games will earn points for their house. Additional points are awarded to students who help their team, encourage others with positive words and show enthusiasm.

Points are collected and go toward the ‘House- Community Spirit Award’ in a presentation at the end of the year.
