MENTORING WORKSHOP
A brilliant morning was spent on Friday 16 October with Year 9 iSTEM students and their Industry Mentors discussing Leadership, Curiosity and Entrepreneurship. Our P-TECH liaison officer had also organised for a special guest speaker, Gloria Chan, a Developer Advocate for IBM.
Gloria shared her wisdom on connecting Professional Skills, Leadership and Curiosity to modern day occupations and also her career pathway. Significant points of learning included:
I would like to congratulate all students for their maturity, insightful ideas and maturity to embrace The P-TECH Mentoring Workshops this year.
In November our students will be participating in a Celebration of Participation in the IBM P-TECH Mentoring Program 2020.
I would also like to acknowledge Miss Reynen for organisation of her students to participate in such a rewarding Mentoring Program that promotes industry partnerships with our local Industry Experts across the Central Coast.
Feedback from our students; to the question “What is one sentence that describes how you are feeling about your involvement in the P-TECH program?" ... students' responses:
"Its been an incredible experience and I have learnt so much about knowing what I need to do to achieve what I want to do in my career".
- Will
"I feel pretty inspired because we are able to hear about other people’s journeys and how they persevered to get to where they wanted to be". - Alexander
"Probably very privileged and honoured to be apart of this program".

Congratulations to Year 9 students Lili Gottlieb, Alexander McGavin and Kasam Rubayi who have been nominated to take part in a three month Global program called IBM Storytellers. On Friday 23 October Lili, Alex and Kasam participated in a virtual IBM Webex meeting with Angelica Avila, Corporate Citizenship Intern with IBM Corporate Social Responsibility along with four other countries - Egypt, USA, Taiwan and Philippines.
It was a rather exciting morning as Lili, Alex and Kasam introduced themselves to students from other parts of the world who are participating in this P-TECH initiative. The three month program will focus on the students completing 3 challenges, the first being a 2-3 minute video Story of their experience in the IBM Mentoring program this year. Lili, Alex and Kasam were guided by Angelica on the craft of Digital Storytelling and the key components as The Subject, The Audience and The Call to Action. Stay tuned to see Lili, Alex and Kasam’s Storytelling Projects.
