Year Advisers Reports

Years 8, 10 and 12

Year 8 have had a great start to Term 4 and have settled really well.  Term 4 is traditionally a very busy term and to date it has been.  Students are working hard in all their classes as they will have a number of assessment tasks due this term.

In English, they are working through ‘Bump It Up’ program and working on their comprehension skills.

In Maths, they are branching out into geometry and looking at the properties of space that are related with distance, shape, size, and relative position of different shapes.

In HSIE, they have moved from studying medieval era and are currently look at Interconnection in Society. They are also preparing for their end of year exam.

In Art, they are working hard to create their own art piece using the ‘The Great Wave’ painting by Katsushika Hokusai as their inspiration.

In Music, they are starting to learn the how to play the keyboard. Maybe, just maybe, we have the next Beethoven in Year 8.

In French, they are planning a virtual holiday for a French speaking country.  Hopefully one day they can experience the real place.

In PDHPE, they are looking at the very engaging topic of puberty and how the body changes as they grow.

In TAS, they are working very hard on various practical projects from wind chimes to bunting in Textiles, making loaded cookies in Food Tech and visiting the animals at The Farm.

Year 8 have also found out what electives they got for Year 9 and Year 10.

Across the board they seem very excited and happy for what is to come next year.  I am excited to see them blossom in their chosen subjects.

The 2020 school year is nearly finished and I encourage Year 8 to continue to work hard and try their best across all subjects.  When you put your mind to it, you can do it.

Keep up the good work Year 8.

Year 10 students have settled back into Term 4. We have a busy and amazing term ahead of us!

Students involved with the P-TECH program are to be congratulated for their positive attitude and proactive approach.  P-TECH students have more amazing workshops coming up, they are reminded to make sure they keep note of the dates and times that sessions are on.

Year 10 students have their final assessments that commenced on 26 October 2020. They are reminded they need to prepare and ensure they submit tasks. If they are absent for any reason or are unable to submit for a valid reason, students need to complete an Appeal Form.

Starting in Week 7, Year 10 will commence their Stage 6 Prep Program. This is an amazing four weeks that benefits students going into senior school.

Year 12 have had a unique beginning to Term 4. Due to the impact of remote online learning, the start of the HSC was delayed by one week to provide students with more time to prepare. This meant that students returned to school during Week 1 for extra class time, which provided them with access to the best revision resource – their teachers! It was an absolute joy to have a bonus week to regularly see Year 12 around the school and it provided us with more special opportunities together, such as returning the letters they wrote to themselves a year ago to be opened at the beginning of the HSC, receiving back activity sheets they created in Year 7 with predictions for their futures, and one final game of dodgeball for their last ever lunch time break.

Many students also took time to gift their teachers with incredibly thoughtful tokens of thanks, which once again proved why this year group is incredible!

The HSC exams began on Tuesday 20 October 2020. So far they have run smoothly and provided great opportunities for students to showcase their abilities. Staff have been impressed by the positive approach of students to the exams. The exam supervisors have also commented on the outstanding respect and responsibility shown in the conduct of Year 12 within the exams.

There is currently a lot of work quietly going on behind the scenes to prepare for the formal on 17 November 2020. It is on track to be an incredibly special milestone event that we are all very excited for! Staff are also looking forward to seeing all Year 12 students on Monday 16 November to sign out of school, students are reminded to bring in textbooks and other borrowed resources and to pay for any outstanding school fees before or on this day.

Good luck to Year 12 for your remaining exams!
