Classroom News - Year 2

Miss Simpson, Mrs Phelps and Mrs Cain

It has been a busy 2 weeks in Year 2 as we wrap up all our learning and prepare for the big leap out of Stage One and into Stage Two. Our studies in Religion have continued to explore Advent and Christmas. We have looked closely at the story of the birth of Jesus and we have enjoyed singing some new songs. Our favourites include This Little Light of Mine and Mary Did You Know.

Learning about Chance has been our focus in Mathematics. We have done a lot of activities around the likelihood and certainty of various things happening. We finished reading our chapter book on the 29th Annual African Hippopotamus Race and enjoyed writing character descriptions and recounts of the chapters. During reading, we have spent a lot of time completing comprehension cards and we have enjoyed challenging ourselves with independent learning. We are all very competent now at logging onto our electronic PM readers so we can read away all holidays!

In Science we watched bean seeds sprout before our very own eyes in the classroom. Hopefully these are now growing well in the ground at home. Mrs Phelps and Miss Simpson say we are all flowers in their garden and they love watching us grow with all the watering and fertilising they have been doing. We really have enjoyed lots of study this year on seeds and plants.

Of course we have completed some fun Christmas craft this week. We decorated a cross with foil and patterns, we made pretend candles out of swimming noodles and we created our own wreaths out of our hand prints.

The Year 2 teachers will be sad to finish our chapter of learning with our special group and we wish them all every blessing for the next chapter.
