SOCKTOBER

This week St. Columba’s raised awareness about Mission Month and helping those in poverty.

We have spent time in class using scripture, prayer and finding out about people in different parts of the world, how they live and how we can help.

Our Social Justice team (Gab, Ally, Clare, Jono and Mischa) organised some fun events for the week and the school is very proud of what they have been able to achieve.

eSmart School

St Columba’s is officially an eSmart school. We are very proud of the work we

all do together to support child safety and online safety. Being an eSmart

school is a wonderful achievement and let’s continue to work together to

keep our children safe.

Cyberbullying

The link below provides parents with excellent information about helping children

who may be experiencing cyberbullying. The eSafety commissioner website

holds valuable information and is highly recommended.

A guide to online bullying for parents and carers.

St Columba’s takes child safety seriously and if you require any further help or

support please do not hesitate to speak to a teacher or a leader at the school.

Literacy and Math Update

As we have returned to face to face schooling and started the process of gathering additional assessment data, we have noticed a positive trend across the school.

Overwhelmingly, students have made solid gains in literacy and numeracy; despite the many challenges of remote learning. We have noticed this, in particular, in reading, spelling, and the number domain. Early indicators suggest that the majority of students will achieve the expected growth for 2020. This is a testament to the partnership between, and hard work of parents, teachers, and students during the past 6 months.

The assessments we have conducted have also helped us identify key areas of need for cohorts and individuals and we will continue to build our student’s abilities within these domains over Term 4.

We pride ourselves in knowing individual students. In a recent ‘Student Survey’, 92% of St. Columba’s Year 3-6 students responded that they felt that their teachers know them extremely well as learners. In addition, 94% of students said they feel challenged to take risks and improve their learning. This is something we have focused on over the past few years and it was pleasing to receive this feedback.

We look forward to continuing to work with the teachers and students to consolidate our gains and to ensure our students are ready for their move into a new year level in 2021.
