This year's theme was 'Contestability' and all students worked hard to plan, research and create their own interpretations of their topic.

It's a huge amount of work in a normal year and even more impressive that many of the students worked on this during online learning.

Sarah and Clare were supported by Junior School Extension Teacher, Jenny Noble. They are very lucky to have her as a mentor and to inspire in them a passion and love of history.

Emily's video, which assesses the Student Resource Centre's collection of Captain Cook stories for the Junior School, was recognised with her being selected as the Tasmanian winner for Year 10.

All finalists were presented with their awards at a special ceremony hosted by Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein. Congratulations on your success, girls!

NAIDOC Week: Always Was, Always Will Be

St Mary's College is celebrating NAIDOC Week from 8-15 November.

An event of national importance for all Australians, NAIDOC Week reminds us of the ongoing aspirations of our communities as they continue the movement towards justice and equality.

This year's theme, 'Always Was, Always Will be', recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for our continent for more than 65,000 years.

The Exhibition 2020

St Mary's College welcomes you to attend The Exhibition 2020.

To comply with COVID-19-safe public health requirements, the maximum number of people we can have at an event is limited. As such, for 2020, we can only accommodate the family members of elective students.

Invited guests will be required to register their attendance on the night, with doors to the Nagle Centre officially opening at 6.00pm. Entrance will be via the side doors and guides will be available to assist with navigating.

Preceding the opening, guests will have the opportunity to view The Exhibition, which has been divided into two zones with two different viewing times respectively.

College values, step by step...

Have you seen the new stair signage in the Junior School? The project was unveiled recently and we're so delighted with the finished product!

The new decals have completely transformed the staircase and surrounding area, much to the delight of our students, and in particular our Year 3-6 students who use the space on a daily basis.

They are a special reminder to our students of the College's touchstones of hospitality, compassion and simplicity, and Presentation values of respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience - the cornerstone on which we build our vision and underpin all that we do at St Mary's College.

The project was generously funded by alumna Elizabeth McKay, whose four grandchildren attend the College. We're delighted to see the McKay children follow in their grandmother's footsteps!

'Oarsome' time for young rowers

Clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine provided the perfect backdrop for the College's rowers, who spent their Sunday at the New Norfolk Rowing Club for the annual rowing camp.

All age groups from under 13 through to open rowers clocked up many strokes and enjoyed team-building activities and a barbecue lunch on the banks of the River Derwent.

A big thank you to all volunteers who helped make the day such a great success!

Remembrance Day poppies

Today we paused to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifice of our armed service persons, both past and present. Students in Year 1 Echidnas spent their morning colouring in beautiful poppies while sharing stories about their family's connection to war. #LestWeForget.

Pen pal program brings joy

Junior School students have been enjoying writing letters to their alumni pen pals in the College's Connecting Generations project.

Jumping jacks, eggs on well-balanced spoons and speedy feet raced along the College Green on Friday 4 November, as students participated in the Prep to Year 2 Athletics Carnival.
