From the Principal

I think the stress of the year has caught up with us! I’ve noticed our children and young people are tired and I can see it in the staff too. We learned during lockdown to go back to basics and work out what it is we really value. Despite this learning, we seem to have jumped back into the business of our daily lives as soon as things re-opened. Hopefully we can do less and do it well, and enjoy being still.

One of my favourite pieces of scripture is brief, but potent: Be still and know I am God (Psalms 46:10). Some clever people have seen the deep wisdom in this reading by paring it back even further...

Be still and know I am God

Be Still and know I am

Be Still and know

Be still

Be

And to look at the scripture from another angle, I am reminded of the profound artwork by Colin McMahon, an artist from New Zealand. I know contemporary art is not everyone’s cup of tea, but even if you just think about the concept it is conveying. It helps to think about it in this way - what if you just drop off all the roles from the end of 'I am' in relation to yourself?

I am a mother

I am a father

I am a sister

I am a son

I am a police officer

I am a homemaker

I am.

God is.
