Term 4, weeks 6-7
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our fortnightly snapshot. Read to find out what's happening in our classrooms.
Coming up we have transition mornings on Wednesday 18th November and Wednesday 25th November. Students will find out what Grade 3 is like on those mornings.
A reminder that every Tuesday and Thursday are Nude Food days. We want to see as many students as possible bringing Nude Food!
Students will be writing persuasive texts over the next two weeks. They will learn how to write:
They will revisit persuasive language, compound sentences, adverbs and adjectives.
In reading, students will be engaging with persuasive texts and information texts. They will be learning to differentiate facts vs opinions and will investigate how writers use facts to justify their opinions.
The students will use information texts to practise skills in note-taking as they locate facts. They will also give their opinion on texts they read and learn how to respectfully agree or disagree with the opinions of others.
We will continue discussing text genre such as fiction and non-fiction and how they can identify the texts genre according to it's features. For example, "I know this is fiction because it has characters, a setting and a plot" or "I know this is non-fiction because it has information, diagrams and sub-headings".
In word study students will be learning Rule 26, all about the use of capital letters for proper nouns. The next rule will be rule 18, which teaches about when to use ai/ay or oi/oy.
After finishing our unit about fractions Grade 2 will begin learning about 2D and 3D shapes next week. Our learning intentions are:
We have begun our final unit of inquiry, 'Relationships exist between people and places.' We will be inquiring into: significant places, why some places change and others are preserved and how places meet the values of the community. Our provocations have involved looking at places in the school that can change or be preserved, identifying places that students have a personal connection to and finding out about Aboriginal Australian's connection to land. Next we will be gathering student questions to guide our inquiry.
Our learner profiles for our unit of inquiry are principled, reflective and caring. We will have class conversations about showing these learner profiles in daily life.
