Book Week

Check out some of the week's activities and costumes from today's dress ups.

Bookweek

We have kicked off Book Week for 2020 and what a start it has been! Students have been busy designing curious creatures for the IPS Curious Creature Competition, creating Book Week door displays, exploring the 2020 shortlisted books as well as listening to the staff at Ivanhoe Primary School read their favourite stories.

Check out some of the other Book Week activities that have been happening below!

Drawing lesson with Leigh McDonald! Some of you might recognise Leigh from our Out of School Hours Care program here at Ivanhoe but I bet you did not know that Leigh is a fantastic artist! Each class this week has had a drawing lesson with Leigh on how to draw a monster. Students used adjectives, colours and numbers to create a range of monster drawings and then drew their own.

Book Week Speakers!

Virtual incursions are the new thing. We were lucky enough in Foundation and Year 1 to have a WebEx call with Mark Carthew, author of ‘The Dingle Dangle Jungle’. Mark sang and read to us, we even got a sneak peak of his new book ‘The Thing That Goes Ping’ which is yet to be released in Australia.

Year 2 and 3 had their own WebEx speaker yesterday- Bernard Caleo. Bernard is a comic book writer amongst other things, so guess what Year 2 and 3 students got to do… MAKE A COMIC BOOK! There were some excellent illustrations from every class. Check out Diva’s from 2HG!

I am sure that Years 4, 5 and 6 have enjoyed their speaker Adrian Beck today. Adrian is a TV producer and has worked on shows such as The Footy Show, The Logie Awards, Carols by Candlelight, Prank Patrol and Kids' WB. He is the author of the Kick it to Nick series, a collaboration with AFL Hall of Famer Shane Crawford.

IPS Spoonville!Ivanhoe Primary School students and staff have begun to decorate spoons to add to our curious creature Spoonville. Keep an eye out for our growing Spoonville community in the front garden of the school if you are walking past.

Don’t forget to submit photos of your child in Book Week costume. See this week’s newsletter or Class Dojo for the link to upload.       Thanks,       Mollie McCormick

OSHC Book Week Activities

Can you guess the book character?

It's not too late

This year we will be creating a video to display all the wonderful book week costumes at our school. To make this possible, it would be great if you could record a 2 second video OR take a photograph of your child in costume displaying the characteristics of their character/the theme. For example, Alice in Wonderland looking for the white rabbit or Billy from ‘Billy was a dog’ acting like a dog.

Filming with a phone, digital camera or laptop should be suitable. Ideally, the video/photograph must include the full body (to show off the costume) and it is preferred if filming can take place in a communal area of the home (preferably not in bedrooms).

Please note: Should you wish to upload your child’s video/photograph, it will be shared with the community as part of a virtual parade. By submitting a video/photograph, you are giving us permission to share on YouTube as an unlisted video, meaning that anyone with the link may watch it.

Please submit by 5pm Friday the 23rd of October to allow time for collation.
