ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Ben Hawthorn

It was a jam-packed assembly today, full of awards and important announcements. Congratulations to Jack, Sadie, Casey and Jorja who were announced as our 2023 School Captains. Knowing these four students, I am certain they are going to make great leaders and will represent our school with pride, passion and purpose. Congratulations to everyone who put their hand up for the role. I was blown away by the quality of the speeches and you should all be extremely proud.

It was also great to have Peter from Kiwanis in to announce our TERRIFIC Kids for Term 4. The recipients of this award are voted for by their peers, which for me, makes it one of the more prestigious awards we have to offer. Congratulations to all our Term 4 TERRIFIC kids.

This morning, we also had the Hands on Learning team launch their newest venture ‘Hands on Coffee’. Each Friday, before and after assembly, members of the team will be brewing up fresh barista coffee from the canteen. As part of the launch, freshly baked cookies and bliss balls were handed out and the team plan to have similar sweet treats available for purchase each week. Hands on Coffee “get your hands on it” is their slogan, which I am sure will catch on quickly around the school. If you are coming to assembly next week, please pop past and say hello to the crew.

Our 2023 Prep transition program is in full swing with our newest Easties taking part in weekly transition sessions each Tuesday. Students have been learning new songs and listening to stories as well as taking part in our SPICE program. The aim of the sessions are to familiarise our new students in an environment where they can interact and get to know each other.  After spending some time in the sessions each week , I am so excited by this cohort and I think we can expect big things from Prep in 2023.

Our current Preps have definitely been making a splash this week as they take part in their annual swimming program. Our swimming program ensures all students have the opportunity to learn how to swim and develop lifelong skills around water safety to reduce the risk associated. I hear we have plenty of super swimmers and they are all getting better and better each session.

It is sure to be a big night for our Grade 2s tonight with the annual and much anticipated Grade 2 sleepover taking place. Our teachers have been working hard to plan a fun filled evening for our students and have assured me, it’ll be a night to remember. For many, this sleepover may be the first night staying away from family and plays an important role as we prepare students for longer camps in future years of school. Have a great time everyone.

Well done to our Student Voice Team who have been working hard to raise money for flood effected communities in the area. The team, lead by the dynamic Miss Turner, held a casual dress day last week and played a big role in our election day cake stall. After counting the money raised from both events, the team presented a cheque for $1130 at assembly this morning. This is an amazing effort from not only the team but also our school community for getting behind such a worthy cause. Thank you and well done, to all.

We only have a few weeks left of school for the year but boy are those weeks action packed. Have a great weekend everyone and I can’t wait to see you all back next week as we begin to bring home another big year.
