Junior School Council

JSC 2023 - THE ELECTION PROCESS IS ON THE WAY!

The school year has begun and one of the first things we need to do is coordinate the election of our classroom representatives on our BPPS Junior School Council.

Exciting news again this year is that each class from Foundation to Grade 6 will have 3 Junior School Representatives and they will be involved with the work of JSC for the entire school year.

The election process began this week. Class teachers explained the process to students which involves:

  1. Students nominating themselves to be a classroom candidate
  2. Candidates preparing a short speech as to why they should be considered to be one of their grade’s 3 JSC Representatives.

Candidates will give their speeches and after they have all been held, students in each class will vote via a secret ballot. After counting the votes, teachers will announce their class’s JSC Reps for 2023.

The process will take a couple of weeks and the 2023 JSC Representatives will be presented at Assembly on 23rd February.

Class teachers have begun facilitating the process by outlining to their students what tasks the JSC Reps will be involved in and the number of meetings they will need to attend at lunchtimes throughout the year. They have also reinforced that all JSC Reps need to demonstrate behaviour that is consistent with and aligned to the school’s core values of Care, Learn and Share.

Some examples of tasks that the JSC Reps will be involved in are:

- planning for and promoting whole school social service days

- helping coordinate and promote BPPS whole school key education events, such as, Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week Celebration Day, Book Week Celebration Day and World Kindness Day.

JSC Reps will also be good citizens in the school, demonstrating exemplary behaviour. They are role models for playing respectfully in the yard, they show empathy for others, they share and they are kind.

Hopefully your child is excited about wanting to be a JSC Representative for their class this year. It will be a great year and many events have been pencilled in the calendar!

If they are excited, encourage them to have a go!

If they are successfully elected by their class, fabulous! If they aren’t, we are sure they have learned a lot in the process and we look forward to them putting their hand up again in 2024.

Thank you,

Julie Tainsh and Ray Owens
