Lacrosse State Championships

On Friday 2nd December the Lacrosse team competed in the State Championships at Fawkner Park against other Primary schools from al. around Melbourne.

It was a hectic schedule with 15 minutes for each game and 11 games played consecutively. Since it was termed Open/Mixed we were playing against all boy teams for some schools.

We won some games, drew some games and lost games, yet all players performed well and showed acts of brilliance during the day. It was a very high standard, and the children had a great experience of playing at this level.

Thanks so much to those parents who drove children to this event and supported them during the day.

Bennett Shield

In Terms 3 and 4, the Grade Five and Six children have been involved in a range of sports, competing for the Bennett Shield. Each week mixed teams represented their House in games against other Houses each Friday morning, receiving points for each game won. Each week the teachers awarded a Sports Award to those children that displayed great Kalinda values and showed consideration of their teammates and opponents.

The winner of the Bennett Shield for 2022 is Melba!

 The Sports Year in Review

Upon taking over from Mrs. Oakley in Term Two I have observed some great improvement and skill development in children in their weekly Physical Education lessons. We have had a range of different activities such as the Grade 3-6 House Athletics day, the Prep-Grade Two Junior Athletics day, and the Footy Tabloid activities on Maths Footy day.

In Term 3 using our Sporting Schools Grant, the children in most Grade levels were able to experience Tennis clinics with Daniel, AFL Footy skills clinics presented by AFL staff, and we were able to purchase extra equipment such as footballs with some of this grant too.

In Term Two the children competed in the District Cross Country with some children finishing in the top ten and progressing to the Division Cross Country and further. We finished a creditable 3rd as a school against around 10 schools in our combined District.

In Term Three the children from Grades 3-6 represented the school at the District Athletics Carnival and we finished a creditable 3rd, with many children qualifying to progress to the Division Athletics day including our 9/10 boys and girls 4x100m Relay teams.

It has been a very successful year for the Inter School Sport teams, with the Basketball, Football, and Soccer teams only losing one game during their seasons.

The Hot Shots Girls' tennis team was undefeated and lost their District play-off to Yarra Valley Grammar. The Girls’ Netball team won our District and played really well to finish 3rd at the Eastern Region Netball Day.

From a Sport perspective, the teams involving Grade 5 and 6 children played some fun and exciting Staff vs Students games in Netball, Football, and Basketball during lunchtimes where many children were able to come as spectators.

I would like to say it has been an absolute pleasure being able to watch and guide all children to achieve their potential and show resilience and persistence in mastering skills in a range of skills and sports.
