Celebrating Kalinda

Foundation

In Positive Education this week the Foundation classes created their own wishing star, inspired by a beautiful Christmas story called What Do You Wish For?

Each student created a wish ‘from the heart’ and carefully illustrated their wish.

Visual Arts

Regular Specialist classes have concluded for the year and I have enjoyed seeing students proudly carrying their Christmas Craft ornaments back to class to take home. It’s wonderful to hear stories of trees decorated with ornaments made at school over the years.

Our Art Monitors, Charlotte L, and Abby S-L have run a wonderful Lunch Art program this semester. Our final project was a Pete Cromer-style collage by Grade 5 students. After selecting a native animal or bird print by Pete Cromer as inspiration, the students painted pieces of paper in colours they planned to use. They spent many lunchtimes tracing and cutting the painted paper into shapes to form these amazing artworks.

Well done to Aidan W, Siara H, Inez W, Belinda Q, Alina I, Marcus G, Josie S, Claire H, Ashly K, and Harrison R.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Another year of the Kalinda SAKG program has come to a close. After last year as Grade Threes working in the school garden, this year the Grade Fours got to see the next step in gardening - cooking the produce!

Kelly Woodman and our wonderful volunteers have guided our Grade Four students to develop their confidence and skills in the kitchen. Students have learned to use knives and graters safely. They have learned about kitchen organisation and having a system when cooking. They have had the opportunity to try new flavours and cook dishes they may not have made before. And yes, mums and dads, they have even learned to wash the dishes and clean the bench tops well!

Without giving away too many secrets, soups, ‘sausage’ rolls, pasta bakes, pizza and cauliflower fritters amongst other dishes used veggies sourced from our very own school garden. Reluctant eaters found themselves trying dishes they might usually say ‘no’ to.

The Grade Fours would like to say a big thank you to Kelly for organising and running such a wonderful program. We would also like to thank all the mums and dads and grandparents who gave their time to help in the kitchen this year.

Carols Night

What a fantastic night we all had on Thursday at our Kalinda Christmas Carols! The weather had us nervous for a while, but in the end, the rain went away and it was a fabulous night. The food trucks and BBQ organised by the Parents & Friends kept us all well-fed with delicious food, and all the students did a fabulous job with their performances.

Thank you again to Chris Mann and Mark Hopkins for their tireless work at the carols night. Thank you to the P&F team for all their work behind the scenes, making everything run smoothly on the night, and to all the volunteers who helped with set up, pack up, and run stalls at the carols. Thank you to the Grade 5 and Grade 6 students who volunteered their time after school running stalls and games. Thank you to Steve, Dave, Nicolas, and the staff members who were in the band. Thank you for rehearsal time, for your bravery to get up and perform, and most of all for entertaining us.

Most importantly, thank you and congratulations to our fabulous student performers. They should all be very proud of their performances. Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support our school and help us celebrate at this busy time of year.
