Dear school community,

 

Term 1 2022 finishes at 2.30pm on 8 April

We are already nearing the end of term 1, on Friday 8 April 2022.  Please remember that the students will be released at 2.30 pm, make sure you have arrangements in place to collect your child(ren).  TeamKids will be available from that time on 8 April, please contact them directly if you need to book.  Term 2 will start on Tuesday 26 April at 9 am.

 

Collectors’ cards

Over the last few weeks, we have had many children bringing collectors’ cards, footy cards and Pokemon cards to school. These cards have been around for as long as I can remember. The biggest issues arise when younger students lose or trade cards and we need to manage the fallout. The best idea is to have these items of value stay at home.

 

Punctuality

Many thanks to those who have made sure their children are at school on time and ready to learn. Please make sure that your children arrive at school with everything they need for the school day, these essential items need to be labelled and children need to take responsibility for making sure they are ready for school. The number of interruptions in the school day impact on learning and we ask families to consider the timing of external appointments or lessons, so as to maximise the learning day.

 

Children arriving after 9am need to be signed in at the office.

 

CJC, a Polling Booth for Federal Election

This week we have had confirmation that our school will be used as a Polling Booth in the upcoming federal election. This exciting opportunity will bring the local community into our school and allow us to provide catering for the voters. More details will follow as we have these confirmed.

 

NAPLAN

Yesterday, Grade 3 and 5 students, and staff participated in the compulsory online practice NAPLAN assessment. The purpose of this session was for students and staff to familiarise themselves with the new platform and to test the capabilities of the server.

 

Overall, it was successful. There were a couple of small hiccups with students bringing their laptops to school not charged. These events provide us with the opportunity to discuss this with the students before the actual assessment and we would ask for parents’ support with this matter.

 

Big congratulations to all the students and staff involved. The actual NAPLAN will occur between May 10th and 20th and parents can find additional information in the Administration page of this newsletter.

 

School Council

This week we had a final meeting of the 2021 School Council. This was an opportunity to thank the outgoing Council members for their work, support and leadership of the College. School Council members volunteer their time, work on school improvement initiatives and ensure our school can continue to improve opportunities for the students, staff and the community. Thanks to Akshat Tanksale, Issy Arieli and Melinda Welton-Howard for their work over their time on Council.

 

Recent visit of Bruno Seweryn’s (Inspector at AEFE-Asia Pacific) 

The recent visit by Mr. Bruno Seweryn, Inspector at AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), Asia-Pacific zone,  was an opportunity for us to share the work we have done over the last few years and share the direction for the French program for the next few years. 

 

Caroline Pommier’s Internship at Bentleigh West Primary

Madame Pommier will be participating in an internship placement with Mr Steve Capp at Bentleigh West Primary School, as part as the “Unlocking Potential Program” of the Department of Education in Victoria. She will be away from CJC for a period of 4 weeks, returning to her duties with us on 2 May 2022. We wish her a pleasant time during her internship.

 

World’s Fastest Working Bees

On Sunday 3 April from 1 pm to 2 pm, the Grade 5 & 6 families are invited to participate to the World’s Fastest Working Bee event.  Please remember that an adult must supervise children at all times during the event.  We hope that many families will be able to come and lend a helping hand; our students are the direct beneficiaries of that important maintenance work.

 

School Office

In the Office at our school, we expect from you and you can expect from us, to show respect by:

  • Communicating politely
  • Showing patience and understanding
  • Staying informed through our official communication platforms.

 

Daylight Saving

Daylight saving ends on Sunday morning April 3rd at 3am. Time to reset your clocks backwards by one hour.

 

COVID Update

COVID cases continue to be a part of our daily life. New Rapid Antigen tests have been distributed, masks still need to be worn, and parents need to contact the school to report a positive test result and children with a positive test need to be at home for 7 days.

Children displaying COVID symptoms or signs of illness at school must be collected and returned to school after 24 hours (if testing negative to a RAT test).

Le premier trimestre 2022 se termine le 8 avril prochain à 14h30

Nous approchons déjà la fin du premier trimestre, le 8 avril prochain.  Veuillez prendre note que les élèves termineront à 14h30, assurez-vous d’avoir un parent ou gardien disponible pour venir les chercher à l’heure.  Au besoin, TeamKids, le service de garde, sera disponible à partir cette heure le 8 avril.  Veuillez les contacter directement pour réserver. Le trimestre 2 débutera le mardi 26 avril à 9h.

 

Cartes de collection

Au cours des dernières semaines, plusieurs élèves sont venus à l’école avec des cartes de collection de type “footy” et Pokemon. Ces cartes existent depuis aussi longtemps que je me souvienne. Elles peuvent facilement devenir une source de conflit quand les élèves perdent ou échangent des cartes, et nous devons résoudre ces situations à l’école. Il est préférable de garder les objets de valeur à la maison.

 

Ponctualité

Merci à toutes les familles qui s’assurent que leur(s) enfant(s) arrive(nt) à l’école à l’heure, frais et dispos pour l’apprentissage. Nous vous prions de vérifier que vos enfants arrivent à l’école avec tout le matériel dont ils ont besoin pour la journée, ceux-ci doivent être identifiés au nom de votre enfant. Il est important que les enfants apprennent à être des élèves responsables. Les nombreuses interruptions en classe ont une influence défavorable sur les apprentissages et nous demandons aux parents de gérer les rendez-vous et leçons externes avec discernement, pour maximiser l’enseignement.

 

Les élèves qui arrivent après 9h doivent être enregistrés au kiosque du secrétariat par un adulte.

 

CJC, kiosque aux élections fédérales

Cette semaine, nous avons eu la confirmation que notre école servira de kiosque pour les prochaines élections fédérales. Voilà une excellente occasion d’attirer la communauté locale dans notre école et nous aurons l’opportunité de servir des nourritures et boissons aux voteurs. Plus de détails suivront dès que ceux-ci sont confirmés.

 

NAPLAN

Hier, les élèves de CE2 et CM2, ainsi que les professeurs ont participé aux pratiques d’évaluations NAPLAN obligatoires. Le but de cet exercice est pour les élèves de se familiariser avec le nouvel outil en ligne et de tester les capacités du réseau.

 

La session s’est assez bien déroulée. Il y a eu quelques petits contretemps, certains élèves n’avaient pas suffisamment chargé leur ordinateur portable. L’exercice nous a permis de discuter avec les élèves des attentes avant la vraie évaluation et nous demandons aux parents de nous appuyer dans cette démarche.

 

Félicitations à tous les élèves et personnels qui ont pris part à la session. Les vraies évaluations NAPLAN auront lieu entre les 10 et 20 mai prochains, de l’information est disponible sur la page Administration de cette newsletter.

 

Comité de gestion

Cette semaine, le comité s’est réuni pour le dernière fois avec l’équipe du comité de gestion de 2021.   Nous en avons profité pour remercier les membres sortants de leur travail, soutien et leadership à l’école. Les membres du comité de gestion sont volontaires et travaillent ensemble pour trouver des initiatives d’amélioration et assurer que notre école continue de maximiser les opportunités pour nos élèves, employés et la communauté scolaire. Merci à Akshat Tanksale, Issy Arieli et Melina Welton-Howard pour leur excellent travail au sein du comité.

 

La visite récente de Bruno Seweryn (Inspecteur de l’AEFE, zone Asie-Pacifique) 

La récente visite de Mr Seweryn, Inspecteur de l’AEFE (Agence pour l’Enseignement du Français à l’Étranger) s’est avérée une excellente opportunité pour partager le travail que nous avons accompli au cours des dernières années, et les projets futurs du Programme français binational pour les années à venir. 

 

Le stage de Mme Pommier à l’école de Bentleigh Ouest

Madame Pommier participe actuellement à un stage de perfectionnement avec Mr Steve Capp de l’école de Bentleigh Ouest, une initiative dans le cadre du développement de potentiel du ministère de l’Éducation du Victoria. Elle sera absente pour 4 semaines et nous reviendra le 2 mai prochain. Nous lui souhaitons un agréable séjour durant son stage.

 

Groupe de travail – CM2 et 6ème

Le dimanche 3 avril de 13h à 14h, les familles de CM2 et 6ème sont invitées à participer à l’évènement groupe de travail (Working Bee).  Veuillez noter que les enfants doivent être supervisés par un adulte en tout temps. Nous souhaitons vous voir en grand nombre; les élèves sont les premiers bénéficiaires de cet important travail maintenance.

 

Secrétariat

Au secrétariat de notre école, nous nous attendons, et vous pouvez aussi vous attendre au respect par:

  • Une communication cordiale
  • De la patience et de la compréhension
  • Une prise de connaissance de l’information disponible sur les diverses plateformes de communication.

 

Horaire d’été (Daylight Saving)

L’horaire d’été (Daylight Saving) se termine le 3 avril à 3h.  Il sera temps de remettre vos pendules à l’heure, en reculant d’une heure.

 

Mise à jour COVID

Les cas de COVID continuent de faire partie de notre quotidien. Les nouveaux tests antigènes (RATs) ont été distribués et les masques continuent d’être portés à l’école.  Les parents sont tenus de nous communiquer si leur(s) enfant(s) retourne(nt) un test positif et ceux-ci doivent s’isoler à la maison pour une période de 7 jours.

Les enfants ayant des symptômes de COVID devront retourner à la maison et pourront revenir 24 heures après la fin des symptômes (s’ils ont retourné un test antigène négatif).

A message from Mr John Painter, Assistant Principal at Beaumaris Primary School, currently in a leadership placement, working with Mr Chant at CJC:

What a unique and amazing place CJC is!

 

Hello, my name is John Painter, and I am Assistant Principal at Beaumaris Primary School.  I am currently on a leadership placement at Caulfield Junior College until the end of Term 1 to learn more about how the school operates at all levels and provide my own perspective on the school.  Beaumaris Primary School is a similar size to CJC and has many elements that are similar, with the obvious exception of the impressive dual learning opportunities the French Binome Program and Victorian Curriculum pathways provide.

 

My reflections so far are that CJC is a place where students are happy and connected to each other, their teachers, and the school, and that they are invested in their learning.  They have been happy to talk and share their thoughts on CJC, and I have been impressed by their friendliness as well as level of independence from students in their learning, both in individual tasks as well as their sense of responsibility for themselves and their group when working collaboratively.

 

The teaching staff are all highly capable educators, and the more time I spend listening and learning from them, and in classrooms, the more I am struck by their ability to manage the complexities of planning and implementing both the French and Victorian curriculums.  It is an extremely passionate and dedicated group of educators supported by an equally capable administration and support staff with knowledge and expertise that is unique to CJC and often beyond the norm of other schools.  The quality targeted teaching and learning is clear in planning and classrooms, and students that have a sense of belonging to CJC.

 

I am thoroughly enjoying my time at CJC and working with and learning from Chris Chant and the staff to discover more about the journey of CJC and the structures, process and people that provide the opportunities and success across the school.  

  

I will usually be at the main gates at the start and end of the day, so please free to introduce yourself and ask any questions about my time at CJC, observations or the learning programs at my own school.
