International Pi Day

Pi Day

International Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14th, or 3.14 in the American format of month then day. Various activities are held to celebrate this special number.

Pi is a constant and cannot be written as a common fraction. It is defined as circumference divided by diameter. We can currently compute pi to 31.4 trillion decimal places without any repeating patterns being found.

Kurunjang Secondary College has a tradition of celebrating this day by holding a “Pie for a Pi” competition where any student who can memorize and then recite pi to 25 or more decimal places receives a pie for lunch.

15 students achieved this in 2022 with Inderpreet Kaur Gill reciting pi to 68 decimal points. She is the 2022 record holder. What a great achievement!

We look forward to the 2023 competition to see if this record will be broken….
