The SMCC Run Squad has hit the ground running this term, with many students hard at work training for the TCS Cross Country event this Friday. Our sessions have included 400m reps to work on our back-end race speed; Anderson St. hill reps to ensure we nail the hill in the Cross Country; and pacing sessions at Pezzuti Park.
Next Wednesday afternoon (11th May) we will be taking a mini van up to the Yungaburra Avenue of Honour for a Peninsula Cross Country course recce. Students who qualify for the Peninsula team and dedicated Run Squad members will be invited to this event. More information will be sent to parents at the end of this week.
Students are also gearing up for the Townsville Running Festival in August. We have students participating in a range of distances, including 5km, 10km and the marathon relay team (42.2km in a team). This is our first big excursion for the Run Squad, and more information will be sent out to parents in the next week.
We are so impressed and proud of our students’ dedication to attending Run Squad sessions, and the effort they give in each session to improve!
Students of all abilities are very welcome to our Run Squad sessions, commencing at 7am every Tuesday morning at the Nazareth Pavilion.
