High Potential Learners

A key aspect of our HPL program is embedding learning within engaging and relevant contexts. In week 2, our Year 10 STEM students attended the Science and Engineering Challenge in at JCU: James Cook University, Australia. The challenge provided an opportunity for students to experience aspects of science and engineering which they would not usually see in their school environment. St Mary's students were happy they won the bridge building competition! Congratulations. Some photos are courtesy of JCU.

Additionally, last Term our Year 10 STEM students were tasked with creating a vertical garden prototype. The gardens were voted on by staff and Year 12 Design students. The winner will see their garden created for use by the Green Leaf Café.

Finally, our Year 9 HPL English class has been delving into the identity of Australian Political parties and how they represent themselves to their community. We were very privileged to host three local guest speakers who were able to give us valuable insight into their political parties.

Mr Phillip Musumeci reached out to us via zoom to present the Core Values and Beliefs of the Queensland Greens.

Member for Leichhardt, Hon. Warran Entsch presented to us the core values and beliefs of the Liberal Party. Mr Entsch also donated some key reading materials to our St Mary’s library. Thank-you Mr Entsch.

We were also very honoured to have Member for Mulgrave, and Speaker of the House, Hon. Curtis Pitt provide us with insight into the Australian Labor party. It is always great to have alumni return to St Mary’s.
