Toyota Hydrogen Centre Tour

On Monday the 28th of March, I had the honour of being invited by Bayden McKell for a tour of the Toyota hydrogen centre. This was part of the prize that Toyota provided for Excellence in STEM from a year 12 student. The other part of the prize was $1000 in cash, that will help Bayden on his journey into his Biomedical Science degree at Deakin University.

The morning saw us have an introduction into fuel cell cars, including Toyota’s environmental plan to 2050. We were shown the hydrolysis plant where the hydrogen is produced on site for the cars. Culminating in a trip to the aerodrome where Toyota allowed us to drive the Mirai and Lexus LC500h fuel cell cars. This was probably the highlight of the tour for both of us.

I would like to thank Toyota for sponsoring the generous Excellence in STEM award and providing the tour for both Bayden and myself.

Our move to NAPLAN Online

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit. It is the only national assessment all Australian students do. Traditionally, this assessment has been a pen and paper test.

This year, NAPLAN is moving to an online format. In May, all students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 across Australia will undertake four assessments for NAPLAN (Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy). All tests, excluding Year 3 Writing, will be completed online via the NAPLAN Online testing platform. Year 3 students will complete their NAPLAN Writing test using paper and pen/pencil.

In term one, our staff and students have worked to transition to this online assessment space, organising devices and headsets, completing practice tests, and trialing the online NAPLAN system. Overall, feedback from these practice tests suggests that our students have responded well to this change to NAPLAN.

Early next term, further information regarding NAPLAN, including times and dates of NAPLAN assessments (scheduled between 10-20th May) will be sent via Compass.

Until then, our students can access the following NAPLAN Online Public Demonstration site to familiarise themselves with the platform for NAPLAN Online:
