Principals Report

Dear families,
As our term concludes I have no doubt that our students, staff and families are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming break. This will be our last chance to enjoy the autumn sunshine prior to the shorter and cooler winter days intrude on our lives. I know many families traditionally head off on camping trips during this break, one of the many activities that has been on hold for the past two years. I do hope you can enjoy those fun times again this year and no doubt cherish the opportunities they will provide to reconnect with family and friends.
I encourage all our students to recharge their batteries over the break, so they are rested and ready for a slightly longer term ahead. It has been a challenging time for some, with the return to face to face learning and we have watched many gradually build up stamina over the term supported by familiar routines. We have certainly reached a milestone today marking the first complete term of onsite learning in two years. As teachers, we are extremely proud of the way our students have returned to the college and have embraced this term of learning.
I extend my warmest congratulations to our prep and year seven students who have completed the first stage of their primary or secondary education. They have been provided with many opportunities to engage with our community through traditional term one events and celebrations! E.g. camps, homeroom, athletics carnivals, sporting activities, Harmony Day, the house sorting hat activity, assemblies or the Easter Bonnet parade. Our preps were delighted when Easter Bunny made a welcome return to the college on Tuesday. Thank you to our families who have provided unconditional support for their children during these two important transition stages in their young lives. You should be extremely proud of the way they have adjusted to school life after two years of uncertainty where life was continually changing between lockdowns, remote or onsite learning programs. It has certainly been wonderful to have everyone back onsite at the college. Our community has been nothing but buzzing all term as we have returned to some form of normality.
As the term draws to a close, on behalf of our teaching and support staff I wish all our students and their families a well-deserved break and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday April 26th ready to commence term 2.

Winter Uniform
The return to cooler weather is a timely reminder of the change in our formal uniform from Summer to Winter items. All students are expected to be in the full winter uniform from day one of term 2. A copy of the student dress code is available in the student diary or on the college website.
Anzac Day
We will be acknowledging ANZAC Day at the college once we return from the term break. The college will provide a wreath to be laid at the local cenotaph at the dawn service in Altona.
Capital Works Stage 2
We are expecting our stage 2 capital works program to commence shortly. The administration and principal class team are currently relocating from the current administration building (BLOCK A) to BLOCK C from day one of term 2. The temporary administration office will be accessible from the door on the deck area adjacent to the food technology centre. The Principal team will be working from the former secondary science laboratory in Block C. Once the works conclude in Block A and the team move back in, Block C will be renovated to provide three flexible primary learning areas and a primary STEM room.
Senior Formal
Our inaugural senior formal was a huge success last Friday evening. Our students were nothing but exceptional on the evening earning well deserved commendations from the team at Grand Star Receptions. The students dressed in formal attire, danced all night and thoroughly enjoyed the evening, describing it as the best night of the year to date. There had been great disappointment last year when after several attempts to reschedule the event due to state government restrictions and the event was cancelled. I have no doubt that the event will grow bigger each year and will be one of the highly anticipated annual traditions as the college continues to grow.
Year 4 to 6 Camp Rumbug
There was great disappointment from our primary students in 2021 when like the senior formal their annual camping program was cancelled due to restrictions. This year the response has been phenomenal and we have had close to one hundred percent of our students attend. The students had an early start at 7:30am on Wednesday morning to travel to Foster North in Gippsland. They wasted no time in exploring the beautiful country environment and engaging in the activities on offer. We have provided updates to families via Facebook and Compass and have no doubt that the students will be full of stories although slightly weary when they return on Friday afternoon. We will update families via Compass of the anticipated return time as traffic will be unpredictable with the commencement of school holidays. Thank you to our staff Michael Sperling, Caitlin Walker, Nicholas Burgess, Shaun Mannagh, Paul Trambulo, Lachlan Christopher, Eloise Berry and Emma Barger who value our camping program and were willing to forgo their own family time to care of our students.
