Year 10 News
It has been a busy and exciting start to the year and we have really enjoyed having students back on-campus and the positive energy that they bring. It has been fantastic to see our Year 10 students out and about again representing Frankston High School and participating in interschool sport, excursions and camps. As I write this, our second group of Years 9 and 10 students have returned from a wonderful Outdoor and Environmental Studies Camp to Melwood, Bairnsdale. We are proud to be able to offer these teaching and learning programs that support students to pursue their passions, as well as explore new interests in a supportive and challenging learning environment.
Frankston High School has a strong learning culture which is reflected in our school motto, Optima Sempter: Best Always. Best always is about each and every young person striving for their personal best in everything they do. To assist our students in working towards their person best in their learning we recommend they reflect on their progress and learning approach to Term 1. The holiday break provides a great opportunity for this. Students are encouraged to reflect on the feedback they received during their Parent Student Teacher Conferences (PSTC) last Wednesday 30 March. Reflect on their learning goals and achievements from Term 1, their organisation, what has worked well and what should be adjusted to bring about growth and improvements. The following points provide some tips to support students with achieving their best in their learning and at school:
- Improve organisation (using the school diary and having a clean and orderly locker)
- Arrive to school and classes everyday on time and ready to learn with all required equipment
- Make use of the different learning platforms used at the school (Compass, Microsoft Teams and OneNote)
- Set specific and targeted goals for each subject
- Identify passion areas and pathway interests to prepare for Term 3 Course Counselling
- Seek regular feedback from their teachers to support their learning
- Challenge yourself, have a growth mindset and be resilient in your learning pursuits.
Year 10 Upcoming Events
- The Wellbeing Team has arranged for our Year 9 and 10 students to be involved in a Proactive Policing Incursion facilitated by Matt Goodwright (Senior Constable at Somerville Proactive Policing Unit) Wednesday 6 April (Periods 5 or 6). The themes that will be addressed in the presentation include: bullying, harassment, and cyber bullying, sexting, legal framework and consequences, party safe and consent.
- Work Experience: 20–24 June. Students will be completing their compulsory Work Experience Modules (for OHS and other workplace responsibilities) in Week 3 of Term 2. (see more information below)
The Year 10 Team is looking forward to a positive Term 2 with our 360 Year 10 students.
Year 10 Work Experience: 20-24 June
All Work Experience Arrangement, Work Experience Travel Arrangement and COVID forms are due in NOWPlease ensure ALL three (3) forms are completed and signed by all parties before handing in.
Please note that the travel form needs to be completed, even if they are not expecting to travel with the employer or any colleagues during their placement. This will ensure your student is covered by insurance for all possible situations that are unpredictable.
If you are having difficulty in finding an employer, please see Ms Debbie James, Work Experience Coordinator in the Work Experience Office (inside the JRC) as soon as possible.
The students will be doing their OH&S General and Industry module testing on Monday 9 May, so students need to be aware of which industry they will be working in to complete this part of the testing.
Students, who require their White Card to attend their trade placement, will be doing their White Card course within Term 2. More information regarding this will be given to those students closer to that time.
If you have a placement and the employer asks when they will be receiving their signed copies of documents, please let them know these will be sent out at the end of May/early June.
