Year 7 Parent 'Meet and Greet'

Thank you to all those parents/carers who attended our Year 7 Meet and Greet on Thursday 31 March.  It was great to meet many families and welcome you onsite to our wonderful school.  Thank you to Mr Darin Joyce, Mr Andrew Batchelor, Ms Myriam Camilleri and PFA representatives Mrs Nickie Fidge (President) and Mrs Trish Brumbaugh (Treasurer) for their presentations on the evening, and all staff who attended.

Partnership between home and school

In my presentation at the Year 7 Parent Meet and Greet evening, I spoke about the importance of the partnership between home and school.  Your child has a large, caring, and knowledgeable network of staff here to support them at Frankston High School, and it is of vital importance that we work together with parents and carers to maximise the learning and wellbeing of all students.  Research highlights the positive impacts of parental support, highlighting the way it can improve achievement, motivation, confidence and attitudes to education. Researcher John Hattie’s extensive meta-analyses of factors that can influence student achievement found that:

  • Parental involvement (“the amount of participation a parent has when it comes to schooling and the child’s life”) has the ability to accelerate achievement (effect size 0.42 based on 1576 studies)
  • Parental expectations (“the level of expectation or aspirations that parents have for their success” of their child) has the ability to considerably accelerate achievement (effect size 0.70 based on 251 studies).

Our motto is Optima Semper (Best Always); we expect students to work hard, but will match their hard work with a high level of support and care. To be able to have equally high expectations and to be able to provide high support, there are many ways you can stay connected with the school and your child’s learning, such as:

  • Checking Compass regularly including Learning Tasks, Attendance, News Feed and Events
  • Reading your interim and semester reports via Compass and reflecting on these with your child
  • Attending semesterly Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences
  • Reading the Frankston High School Newsletter (well done, you are already doing this!)
  • Checking your child’s diary for homework, upcoming assessments and other key school information
  • Connecting with Frankston High School Parent Community Facebook pages
  • Attending school events like working bees, information evenings, music performances and our school production

We are truly grateful for the support of our parent community and encourage you to contact us throughout the year as we work in partnership to support your child.
