Student Agency

This year we are working to develop a model of what Student Agency looks like at Frankston High School.  This work is being led by Mrs Sarah Bahramis (Director of Student Leadership and Community Engagement).

There is a significant body of research that highlights when students have a strong sense of agency, they are empowered to take ownership of their learning and a positive cycle of learning is generated as per Figure 2 below from Department of Education and Training, 2019.

At the SLC Camp at the beginning of March, our SLC students started the work of identifying what Student Agency looks like at our school.  This work will continue during a Student Agency Workshop on Wednesday 6 April with a random sample of Years 7–10 students along with Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mr John Simon (Campus Principal), Mr Andrew Batchelor (Principal) and myself.

We will then be looking to collect feedback from our parent/carer community and teachers on our draft model of Student Agency.

We look forward to sharing this with you shortly.
