International Women’s Day Breakfast

Recently we held our inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast at Frankston High School.  It was a morning of celebration of women and their contribution and leadership on so many different levels throughout society.  Thank you to all of our inspirational speakers: Mrs Peta Murphy MP, Federal Member for Dunkley; our very own Bethany Yeuong of Year 12 and the 2022 Frankston City Council Young Citizen of the Year; one of our wonderful School Captains, Lu Yang of Year 12, leaders of our Chill Out Look About team: Alexandra Shacklock, Kelly Gilbert, Abbey Black, and Sienna Longmuir, all of Year 11.  We also had a number of distinguished guests present including the Mayor of Frankston, Cr Nathan Conroy, Frankston City Council Citizen of the Year, Mrs Trudy Poole; Victoria Police members from Frankston Police Station; and School Council members.

Thank you to Mrs Stav Smaragdiou and Mrs Carolyn Florance for their efforts organising this celebration, supported by many staff including our Facilities Team and Mrs Gayle McGinty.  Thank you also to Mrs Sarah Bahramis for her efforts organising contributions from our student leaders.  As a society, we have made progress, however, need to do more to ensure we #BreakTheBias.

Harmony Day and Casual Dress Day

Thank you to Mr Isaac Bakker, Mrs Sarah Bahramis and the Frankston High School SLC who organised and ran our Harmony Day Celebration on Monday 21 March, and our Casual Dress Day on Friday 25 March.  Harmony Day is a day to celebrate cultural diversity, something that is done through practising inclusiveness, respect and helping people feel connected. It was great to see all of the orange accessories on the day and cultural clothes. The sausage sizzle was a huge success with students encouraged to meet new people and learn phrases in foreign languages. Monies raised from our Casual Dress Day go towards supporting Tangaroa Blue Foundation - an Australia-wide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris.

Year 7 Meet and Greet

We held our Year 7 Meet and Greet on Thursday 31 March. This was a great opportunity to meet our Year 7 parents and further strengthen the vital connection and partnership between school and home. Thank you to Mr Darin Joyce, Ms Emily Sykes, Mrs Sharee Dew and Mr John Simon for their efforts organising this event.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

We held our Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences remotely via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 30 March. This was a great opportunity for parents to meet the teachers of their children and to hear feedback on how they have gone so far this year. Thank you to Mrs Helen Wilson for her leadership of this opportunity and for all teachers for their efforts during this day and evening.

Art Acquisition Piece

Well done to Eliza Strangward of Year 12 whose art piece we have acquired and is currently displayed in the foyer of the entry to the office at the 7-10 Campus.

Thank you to Ms Jo Beck who worked with Eliza last year with this artwork. Please go and see this fantastic piece of work.

Reading Certificates

Thank you to Year 7 and 8 English teachers who have been encouraging and acknowledging student reading via certificates so far this year.  It is really enjoyable to chat with these students around their reading interests and how proud they are.

Year 7 Music Recruitment Evening

On Tuesday 15 March we held our Year 7 Music Recruitment Evening for those interested students and parents. Thank you to Mr Peter Sharp for organising this event, well supported by Mr Ben Braithwaite, Mr Andrew McAdam, Ms Kim Starr, Ms Peta Laughlin, Ms Sally Bredin and the rest of the instrumental music team who were in attendance. It was a very engaging evening resulting in a large number of students participating in our wonderful music band program.

Working Bee

Thank you to Mr Glenn Davey, Mrs Anne Thomson, Mrs Carolyn Florance, Mr Adam Carson and Mr Dale Woolnough for their efforts organising our first working bee for the year on Sunday 20 March. Thank you to all parents and staff who attended. It was wonderful to see the completed Senior Campus quadrangle area now with a wide range of plants.  We also completed watering, pruning, weeding, mulching and pressure washing on the Senior Campus. There was work completed in the Japanese Garden by the Frankston Susono Friendship Association.  It was great to have some representatives present and a visit by the Mayor of Frankston, Cr Nathan Conroy. Year Level Assemblies

Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis and our Sub School Teams for their efforts organising these recent assemblies with our SLC students.  It was great to celebrate all of the wonderful contributions our students and staff make to our school, and to reflect on the enormous opportunities our students are provided.  This is what makes our school so great!

International Women’s Day Forum

On Friday 18 March, our School Captains and myself attended a special International Women’s Day Forum at Carrum Downs Secondary College run by Sonya Kilkenny MP. The guest speaker was Felicity Topp, Chief Executive at Peninsula Health, who shared her insights, experiences and some challenges she has faced.
