Assistant Principal Report

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

Aristotle

I sincerely hope that you all had a lovely Easter and were able to spend time with your loved ones. As we recall the great event of Easter, we are reminded that as Easter people, we are called to bear witness to the truth. Today, we allow Jesus to live through our bodies and our voices. We are the Body of Christ. This is not just a nice metaphor - this speaks about our actions as Easter people. Jesus lives today through his body - our Church and we can witness each day by standing up for justice and love.

On our first day back this term, we gathered as a whole school to commemorate ANZAC Day. The girls are to be commended for the way in which they respectfully engaged in the assembly. Our guest speaker,  Louise Kirkwood, Vice-President of the Coogee- Randwick -Clovelly Sub-Branch, spoke of the core values of the ANZACs and how we can live these values today. At the Assembly the annual ANZAC Award was presented to Eliza Cooke. This award is presented to a student who reflects the core values of ANZAC.

Ex Students Association Afternoon Tea

On Sunday 1 May the Ex Students Association gathered at the College for Afternoon Tea. A group of our Year 11 students assisted at this event and acted as hosts as well as serving the Ex Students. These students willingly gave of their time, demonstrating the charism of St Brigid through their willingness to share their own gifts in the service of others.

Thank you to the following students:

COVID Update:

As many of you are aware, the government announced changes to close contact rules at the end of the school holiday period. Those that primarily impact schools are summarised below:

  • Household contacts (staff and students) are no longer required to isolate and can attend school if they fulfil the following requirements:
    • Notify the school.
    • Conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for five school days.
    • Wear a mask indoors, except when eating or exercising.
    • Not permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
    • Not permitted to attend settings identified as high risk by NSW Health (healthcare, aged care, disability care or correctional facilities)
    • Any visitor (who is a close contact) is required to advise the school before they come on site and follow the above rules.

Uniform

It is imperative that parents support the College in promoting a positive image for our school. Each student is expected to wear the College uniform by maintaining a high level of neatness while wearing it and acknowledging appropriate behaviour whilst wearing the uniform. The College blazer is always compulsory when the winter uniform is worn when travelling to and from school. The College sport jacket is NOT to be worn to school when the winter uniform is worn. The sports jacket is NOT a raincoat and should only be worn with the sports uniform. Pastoral Care Teachers will be issuing demerits to girls who do not adhere to these expectations. Girls are also reminded of our College expectations with regard to piercings and jewellery. A student may wear in each earlobe one small plain gold or silver earring. No other jewellery is to be worn, apart from a wrist watch. Students are permitted to wear a small religious icon or cross on a thin chain worn inside the uniform and sitting below the uniform’s collar or top button.

Athletics Carnival

Unfortunately due to the intense rain over the last few weeks, construction work at ES Marks will not be complete in time for our scheduled Athletics carnival. As a result, the College has decided to postpone our Athletics Carnival and try to find an alternate venue for later in the term.

Upcoming Events:

  • Monday 9 May - Year 10 Parent Evening Subject Selection (zoom)
  • NAPLAN commences for Years 7 & 9 on Tuesday 10 May. Further details will be sent to students and parents by the Director of Curriculum.
  • Athletics Carnival - postponed.

I look forward to a positive and enriching term.
