Year 12

POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENT – GOAL SETTING

Recently in their pastoral lesson, the Year 12 students had the opportunity to take some time for reflection and goal setting.

“It was really nice to reflect on and think about the positive moments of the year so far!” -  Olivia

The pastoral lesson started with a fun ice breaker activity of 'Dice Bingo'. Homeroom groups were divided into small groups where they took turns to roll the dice to determine which question they had to address.

“What is the last song you sang out loud?

“What is the strangest dream you can remember?”

“If you could only keep three apps on your phone, what would they be?”

Laughter could be heard from the corridors outside the Homerooms as students pondered and answered these probing and thought-provoking queries.  The occasional exclamation of BINGO! broke through the general frivolity as students achieved a complete column or row.

“It was nice to bond with our classmates”    -     Scarlett

With the ice breaker complete, students had the opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments from Term 1.  It is important to provide time and space to acknowledge the things that went well and take a moment to feel proud of these achievements.

Students were then encouraged to consider areas of improvement and set academic, wellbeing and personal goals using SMART as a template.

SMART goals were useful as a framework to plan for our busy term ahead”  - Kasey

There was much discussion and reflection on a range of important considerations:

  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • How will I know when I have achieved my goal?
  • How can the goal be accomplished?
  • Does this seem worthwhile?
  • When do I want to achieve my goal?

Students were provided with study planners to assist with scheduling homework, revision, sporting and social activities.

Post school ideas and plans were discussed.  An important part of the discussion covered barriers to achievement and strategies to overcome these roadblocks.
