Year 10

Welcome back to all Year 10 students, families, and wider community! It has been wonderful to see our Year 10 students return with positivity and joy, refreshed to begin another busy term.

An important part of the College calendar is our upcoming examination period, commencing on Friday 3 June (Week 6). The examinations are a crucial and important part of our curriculum which enable our students to develop their revision and study skills in preparation for VCE.

Additionally, examinations encourage our students to create positive learning habits, time management and organisational skills, as they plan and prepare for their subjects in advance.

Throughout the term we will be focusing on developing key skills that will allow our students to feel confident, organised and ready for their Semester 1 examinations.

Wellbeing Tip - Social Media Detox

Now is the perfect time to encourage your child to trial a 'detox' from social media which can allow your child to focus on being present and create positive habits at school and at home.

One tip is to encourage them to delete and remove their social media apps from their phones for 24 hours and notice how they feel afterwards. I can guarantee, they will feel better.

Another tip is logging out and deleting all social media apps during the week (while at school) with an allowance to login once per day (at night).

Proven benefits from disconnecting from social media include:

  • A more content and calmer young person
  • Becoming more productive
  • Healthier relationships
  • Physical, emotional and mental health will improve
  • Improved sleep

Study Skills: Time Management

All Year 10 students received a laminated A3 study timetable that we created for them to use in preparation for the upcoming examinations. We really are encouraging your child to start preparing for their examinations now!

Part of this preparation is dedicating time per day/week to revising their Semester 1 content for each subject, such as summarising the key concepts and skills learnt so far. The earlier young people begin their revision for examinations the less stressed they will feel!

How to use the study timetable:

  • Plan a schedule of balanced activities (including jobs, sport, socialising and family time)
  • Plan enough time for study in each subject
  • Study at a set time and in a consistent, tidy and organised space
  • Study as soon after your class as possible
  • Utilise odd hours of the day to study/revise
  • Limit your study to smaller blocks
  • Utilise the chunking method (small study blocks)
  • Leave some unplanned time throughout the week to allow you to be flexible
  • When unexpected events arise that take up time you had planned to study, decide immediately where you can find the time to make up the missed study time and adjust your schedule for that week.
