Religious Education

The Place of Liturgy

Catholic schools have a distinctive culture that is underpinned by Gospel values, and a resolve to uphold the dignity of the whole person. Students of Kilbreda College are afforded a sanctuary where not only education of the mind takes place, but also education of the heart and soul, and an opportunity to develop a relationship with a transcendent God.

This term, all students will participate in a Liturgy of Compassion in the College Chapel during one of their Religious Education classes. This time will allow students space to explore the compassion of Jesus and examine who they are in light of his love for us. Each liturgy will provide time where students can explore what they believe and how they can contribute to the greater good of society.

Religious Education classes allow students to consider how faith and values speak into the content they are studying and apply this to the context in which they live, encouraging students to think beyond their individual circumstances and consider how faith is lived out in their communities and provides authentic contexts for learning and living.

The Brigidine Sisters who began Kilbreda College in 1904 continue to inspire our current generation of young people. The gospel values that this College was founded on, continue to live in members of the Kilbreda community and can be seen in action around the College through our peers and colleagues. Connection to lived tradition is important, and provides students and staff with a connection to the love that Jesus demonstrated and the mission that we carry out.

Opportunities to reflect upon and recontextualise our faith and belief provides a continual renewing of meaning and connects students and staff to the culture of the school and our Catholic faith. I encourage you to ask your daughter about her learning in her Religious Education classes and what she is taking away from the experiences that are being provided. Staff at Kilbreda take their role as custodians and stewards of our heritage and faith very seriously and consider it a great honour and privilege to play a role in the nurturing of the spiritual development of the Kilbreda community.
