From the Principal

As we commence Term 2, I hope that staff, students and their families had a most enjoyable and restful break and a very happy Easter.  After our first full term on site since 2019, the break was much anticipated and welcomed! It was wonderful to see students, staff and family members gather together during the holiday period for the Palm Sunday Walk for Refugees and the ANZAC Day Service at Mentone RSL.

With the ongoing and very lengthy detainment of refugees in our country, events such as the Palm Sunday walk are an important way in which we can support the refugees and try to effect change.  As a school community, we commemorated ANZAC Day with a service on the morning of Tuesday 26 April, pausing to remember all those who sacrificed so much in service to their country and to pray for peace.

Our Year 9 students commenced Term 2 with their four-day BRIDGES camp at The Summit Camp, participating in various adventurous activities and team challenges. Those Year 9s who are completing The Duke of Edinburgh Award had the added challenge of completing their practice hike, in preparation for the Adventurous Journey component of the Award.  Thank you to all staff involved in both the planning and running of these experiences for our Year 9s!

Year 11 students commenced the term with our first ‘Aspire Day’ at the College. The program for the day was developed in response to feedback from Year 11 students and teachers and designed to encourage and support the girls to achieve their best. Past pupil, Ashleigh Gardner (Class of 2005), was our keynote motivational speaker and a number of staff prepared and led study skills workshops.

Already, in the first two weeks of the term there has been numerous events, co-curricular activities, enrichment programs, sporting competitions, music and production rehearsals in addition to very busy classrooms! Both this newsletter and our social media pages are a great way for members of the Kilbreda community to read about the wonderful achievements and contributions of our staff and students.

As we approach Mother’s Day this weekend, we acknowledge and celebrate our mothers and mother figures in our lives, those that are still with us and those who have gone before us. Their enduring and unconditional love, support and encouragement is what shapes us and while we celebrate this each Mother’s Day, we should always show how grateful and appreciative of their love and support we are.

Heavenly Father,

on this Mother’s Day,

we thank You for our mothers through whom Your gift of life begins

and through whom we are nurtured into great human beings.

We lift up all mothers to Your love and care.

We pray for them, for their needs of strength and support

to continue to nurture a family of love,

in honor and love for You, our God.

Lord Jesus Christ,

we call upon Your blessed name to bless all mothers today and every day.

Extend Your hands of grace over them.

Amen.
