Grade 1/2 News

Week 2, Term 2

Grade 1 and 2 Reminders:

  • This year we will once again be participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge - each class will record the stories they are reading towards the challenge.

Welcome to Term 2...

The grade 1 and 2 students have made a wonderful start to the term, beginning with some persuasive writing. Students have been learning how to form opinions by working out whether they agree or disagree with different topics. We had an interesting topic to begin with (see photos below)!

During our topic lessons on Sustainability - we have buried items (soft plastic, paper, fruit & wrappers) to see how they decomposes. Students made predictions about what might happen and will get to check at the end of the term.

Upcoming Fortnight:

Term 2 - Week 1 and 2

Literacy:  Over the next two weeks we will cover 'blending the sounds, stretch and re-read' and 'flip the vowel sound' when attempting unfamiliar words in our reading. We will focus on the sounds f, b, j and w. When writing, we will continue to look at persuasive writing and trying to persuade our audience to agree with our point of view.

Mathematics: Our Mathematics sessions will be focusing on Addition and using effective mental strategies to solve addition problems. We will also look at time (duration in terms of days, months and telling the time) and chance (using chance vocabulary e.g. impossible, certain, unlikely, likely etc.).

Topic: We will continue our focus on Sustainability. Students will explore the concepts of decomposition, recycling and reducing packaging and water use.
