Prep Reminders:
- Please remind and encourage your child not to bring toys to school. It is devastating when our favourite toys get lost or broken. The only exemption for this is when a student would like to use their accumulated stickers to bring in a toy for the day. In this case, the toy stays in the classroom throughout the day.
- When you are filling out your child's reader book checklist (the A4 loose page), please make sure you write the date each time they read the book during the week.
Welcome to Term 2
The Preps have had an awesome start to Term 2! We are all really enjoying our Topic sessions based around Fairy Tales. Students have been learning to be creative, use their imaginations and have taken part in some really exciting activities.
Below are photos of a Maths lesson where the students were learning about ordinal number. We had lots of fun racing characters from the fairy tale 'The Three Little Pigs'.
Our Prep students also loved working with a partner to design and create one of the houses from 'The Three Little Pigs' story. Their goal was to make sure their house was strong enough to hold up against a huff and a puff from the big bad wolf.
Upcoming Fortnight
Term 2
Week 3
Literacy: we will be completing revision of all of the sounds and heart words we have learnt so far. We will continue our work on syllables and our next word family is 'en - hen, ten, Ben'.
Week 4
Literacy: we will start our work on Stage 4 sounds. This week, week we will be learning j, u and k. Our Heart Word is 'to' and our word family is 'it - hit, sit, bit'.
Throughout the next two weeks, in Mathematics, we will be learning about location and using directional language. We will complete some activities around statistics and probability and explore measurement - length/mass/capacity.
Linking with topic, the next fairy tales we are exploring this term are, 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' and 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We will also be comparing similarities and differences with a variety of materials and toys.
