Mother’s Day Breakfast

Mr Parkes circulated some Mother’s Day Breakfast information via Compass on Tuesday, 26th April. I have repeated this message below. Please check it and place an order if you haven’t already done so, as we would love to have you with us for breakfast tomorrow morning. Happy Mother's Day to all of our awesome SGPS mums!

Parent Club and Mrs Leed are facilitating the creation of a Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day gift this year. We are requesting that families place an order for gifts via the Canteen module in Compass. In addition to this, families can also place an order for Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day breakfast, taking place in the Hub on the morning of Friday 6th May from 7am to 8:30am. We are using the Canteen module so that families can order and pay for the gift and for breakfast in one transaction. As this is a little different to how we usually use this module in Compass, please follow these steps to place both orders:

  1. Open the Canteen module on your phone or via a web browser.
  2. Select the sitting date – Friday 6th May
  3. For each of your children, order a gift ($5) and breakfast ($3), if applicable.
  4. On one of your children’s orders, include orders for adult breakfast/s ($5 each).
  5. Confirm and pay.

** If you would like an individual child to create 2 gifts, please adjust the quantity on the order.

Education Week – Sunday, 22nd May to Saturday, 28th May

Education Week 2022 is almost here!

This year’s theme is about celebrating Victoria’s 150 Years of Public Education with our school community.

Our school has been part of Victoria’s education story for 116 years. In this time, we have shared many wonderful moments and significant milestones with our school community. We thank you for being part of our school’s education story!

Education Week is a time when family members are formally invited to come and visit our school. It encourages these family members to participate in the activities that their child participates in at school.

Please check the next newsletter for further details.

Grandparent's Day

We are planning to have our first Grandparent's Day since the pandemic began. In recent times it has been held during Education Week in May, however, this year it will be held on Friday, 28th October. This date is close to the nationally recognised day, which is Sunday, 30th October. It's never too early to pop this date in your diary! Traditionally, it has been a favourite day for many of our staff and students.

Please note that grandparents are still most welcome to be part of our Education Week activities. In fact, we will be inviting some grandparents to play an active role in our Education Week celebrations.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It is an annual part of the school calendar and has been since 2008.

NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in May. This year they will be held from Tuesday, 10th May to Friday, 13th May.

NAPLAN tests skills in Literacy and Numeracy that are developed over time, through the school curriculum.  The information gained from these tests is used to support the teaching and learning that takes place at our school.  All parents will receive a comprehensive report of their child’s NAPLAN results.
