Chinese Museum Excursion

On Wednesday the 16th of March, all three Year 9 History classes went on an excursion to The Golden Dragon Museum. We walked from school to the museum located in central Bendigo, and although the weather was grey and cold, we were all excited.

The purpose of our trip to The Golden Dragon Museum was to further our understanding of Chinese migration and settlement in Australia. Once the tour commenced, we learnt about the rich and vibrant culture the Chinese brought to Bendigo during the gold rush.

We learned about the important role they played in the establishment of Bendigo and all that they contributed. However, we also discovered the inequality and discrimination that they endured, even after all that they had provided for Bendigo.

We all had a fantastic time learning about the history of Chinese migration in Bendigo, and we would have not been able to attend if it was not for Ms Dempster and Mr Smeelie, so we thank them on behalf of Year 9.
