Year 3 - Year 5

Assistant Principal's Report

2020 here we are!

With our whole school values, instructional model and practices firmly in place, the beginning of our new year could not have been smoother.  Students genuinely expressed an eagerness to be back at school and all classes across Years 3, 4 and 5 have been working together to describe what focus learners do AND what focus teachers do.

Here is an example from Year 5 S36.

The beginning of the year is a time to build strong relationships between students, staff and parents. At 'The Springs' we achieve this by showing an interest in our student's lives, both inside and outside of school.  We collaborate to better understand each student's learning needs, strengths and stretches and create flexible plans to cater for these.  All teachers create goals for themselves around the student learning data, to ensure accountability in your child's learning. As parents/carers, attendance at our Parent/Teacher/Student interview night, supporting the completion of home tasks by ensuring time is put aside for this and communicating with both your child and your child's teacher, further builds upon having and maintaining strong relationships.  If your child has moved into Year 3, please be aware that there are often more notices and events that occur in the middle/senior years.

I would like to remind all parents to log into Compass (our school's online communication system) regularly to ensure you are not missing extra-curricular events that involve your child.  Also, Compass will record any minor incidents involving your child that you may wish to also discuss at home. Teachers will also be using Compass to communicate timetables and celebrations, so stay tuned.

This week, students have been learning about the workbook expectations in their new year level. Please ask your child about these expectations.

Some things include:

Senior School

  • Ruled pages
  • All written work in Literacy and Inquiry books to be in blue or black  ballpoint pen
  • No graffiti in any books or on book covers

Middle School

  • Ruled pages
  • Work must be dated
  • All written work is to be grey lead.  Blue and Black pen in Year 4 where appropriate

Students have attended all specialist classes, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Visual Arts, Physical Education and Media Arts, this week and again settled into learning well.

I feel very proud to be the Learning Community Leader/Assistant Principal working with the Year 3, 4 and 5 staff teams, students and parents in 2020. I will endeavor to keep you updated each fortnight in the learning celebrations, news and events.

Have a great fortnight,

Jane King
