Principal's Message

Our HSC students are entering the final couple of weeks of their secondary schooling and have just completed their HSC Trials. From the feedback received so far from staff, it appears that our students have done quite well overall. It is important that each student now look at the feedback given by their teachers to use to concentrate on those areas where they can further improve. These last few weeks are so important.

Along the same lines, Year 10 students have recently chosen their subjects for study in Year 11 , 2019. All students have been interviewed by our Careers Adviser and Senior Executive to ensure that the student's pattern of study reflects their capacity, interests and career goals.

We have had quite a few students taking part in a number of extra-curricular activities this term, including Tournament of the Minds, debating, the Round Table with Mr Steven Jones MP, as well as a number of sporting competitions and other exciting events. It is great to see our students taking part in all of these activities – it is what makes school enjoyable. Our multipurpose courts are also now completed and getting plenty of use. These courts are a great addition to the schools infrastructure and will certainly be appreciated by our students.

We are currently working with the Department of Education's Communication Directorate to help us to engage with our community so that we are better able to find out from our students and their families what it is that we are doing well and what we can improve on. If you would like to be part of this please contact me here at school on 42963844 or by email anthony.hicks@det.nsw.edu.au The feedback we receive from our community will help us with our planning to ensure that we are catering for the needs of all of our students.

We will be having our Term 3 Parent -Teacher evening on Thursday 27/9/18 in the school library. It would be great to see as many parents and caregivers as possible in attendance. If you are unable to attend please contact the school if you would like to discuss your child's progress with their teachers.

Deputies' Report

The weeks leading up to the end of Term 3 are always a busy time for students. Last week, Lake High celebrated Book Week. This event was supported by many students and staff and was highlighted by our themed dress up on Wednesday. Special thanks to Mr Nairn and all the staff and students who supported such a bright and uplifting week of events.

Year 12 have recently completed their Trial HSC exams and are currently working through the feedback with their teachers. This is a particularly important time for Year 12 and I know that our staff have put in a lot of work to ensure that the feedback and support is used to produce improvements for the upcoming HSC exams. Year 12 are reminded that the next few weeks are an opportunity to solidify their knowledge and skills and to focus on improving the areas for improvement leading into their final exams. Year 12 will have their Graduation on Wednesday the 26/9/18 in the school hall and we look forward to seeing many of the families and friends who have supported these students throughout their school careers.

Year 11 are also busy preparing for their final Preliminary exams for the year in Weeks 9 and 10. We wish them the best of luck for this time and they should be doing some extra study at home leading into this period. Term 4 will see these students begin their HSC studies. If any students are finding this time stressful please contact the Deputy or Year Adviser to arrange support.

This week has seen a new SRC initiative of Week Great. A series of lunchtime activities, ranging from milkshake day, wood fire pizzas and lunchtime sports have been arranged to make the week fun at school. The final activity for the week is our Colour Run. This was very successful last year and is a great way to cap off a great week of celebrating what is great at Lake High. Well done to Mr McAndrew, Mr Price and the entire SRC.

All staff recently engaged in a twilight professional learning workshop based on Formative Assessment. This professional learning focused on developing strategies to support the learning of our students in class each lesson and it has been great to see the number of staff enthusiastic about implementing these strategies in their classrooms. The students of Lake High are very fortunate to have a dedicated and caring staff who are focused on delivering the best learning outcomes for our students.
