Meet our College Captains

Jaden Ward, College Captain Clyde North Campus

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I started my studies at St. Peter’s College in Year 7 in the year 2015

Tell us about your family?

I live with my mum and dad as well as my younger brother who is in Year 7. I was born in South Africa, so I still have family back there that I haven’t seen in a long time, but I have a lot of family in Australia, many Aunties, Uncles, and Cousins as well as my Granny and Grandpa. I have one Granny on my Mums’ side that is back in South Africa.

Tell us about your other interests?

My main interest other than school is soccer. I currently play for the club Bayside Argonauts, I have played for Berwick United, Casey Comets and I have also represented Victoria in a national competition.

Year 12 Studies:

I take Biology, Legal Studies, Physical Education, Ethics and Morality, English and Further Mathematics

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

Last year I did Units 3 & 4 Psychology and it was a great experience. It gave me a head start and a good insight of what is to be expected in Year 12 and has helped me with my schooling.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

If you are gentle and humble in heart, then you can be gentle to others. Being kind to others starts from within and this is saying that if you in your heart are humble and gentle then you will be able to be humble and gentle to others as well.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

I will live this statement through in 2020 by being kind to others and upholding the values and principles of the school. I will show compassion and respect to all the people that I meet, talk to and see within the school. I will always be there for the people of my school through thought, word and deed making sure they all feel like they are a part of a family that can get through anything if we are all gentle and humble in heart.

What are your goals for 2020?

My goals for 2020 are to be the best College Captain I can be whilst maintaining a high level of focus and determination at school. I want to do great at soccer and keep aspiring to be a great role model to the people around me and those that look up to me.

For yourself in your Captains role?

To be a role model everyone can look up to and aspire to be. I want to show what servant leadership means; by treating everyone how they would like to be treated and acting as a voice for the people.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

I aspire to maintain good grades while being able to keep an active social life whilst working and doing my sport of choice.

Personally?

I want to be to be the best person I can possibly be. I want to make a name for myself at St. Peter’s College and become established as one of the greatest College Captains to ever walk out of the gates.

What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?

Before I leave, I want to make the school feel more like a family instead of a place you go to just to learn. I want the school to feel like a second home to all of those that come to it by making sure everyone is positive about the environment they work in and the people surrounding them

What are your immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I hope to get a high ATAR so that whatever path I choose to go down I have the ability to do it. I will continue to play soccer and try to play at the highest level that I can.

What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?

My long time life ambitions and aspirations are to be happy and live my life to the fullest. I want to take the knowledge given to me by St. Peter’s College and apply it in the real world and real life scenarios so that I can make myself, my family and my school, that helped me get to where I am, proud.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

Enjoy your time here, it’s short and doesn’t last long so make the most of it, because when it’s over you’re going to miss it. Pay attention in class as your teachers are your greatest support, but have fun when you can because there is always need for a balance.

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I began my studies at St. Peter’s College as a year 7 student in 2015, I wish I could remember my first day- it’s a blur to me.

Tell us about your family?

As the oldest of my family, I grew up taking care of my two younger sisters. They’re absolutely spoiled while I found myself doing the majority of the house chores. I also live with my parents- making us a family of five. My parents are hard workers, who do everything they can to make us happy.

Tell us about your other interests?

The thing with me is I have a vast variety of interests. They range from ice-skating, to collecting stationary and studying unique architecture. However, I have always had a great interest in the arts since I was in primary school.

Year 12 Studies:

As a Year 12 student, I am currently completing English, Further Maths, French, Visual Communication, Psychology and Ethics & Morality. French and Psychology are probably the most difficult subjects personally. Instead of being tested on what I have learnt during one unit in French, 5 years’ worth of the study comes into play in terms of knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. I made the decision to pick up Psychology 3&4 this year, potentially a risky move but I’m finding myself really engaged and interested in the content.

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

Unfortunately, no! I missed out on the opportunity to complete a VCE study- I would have loved to study Art 1&2.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

As a member of the St. Peter’s community, I am to live my daily school life by these words. In particular, gentle and humble resonate with me on a personal level, as I aim to present myself in a similar way to the staff and students.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

Throughout the year, I aspire to be the best version of myself internally and externally. I will live by this statement by being nothing but kind to others, helping those in need and be able to expand on their ideas and aspirations for the college. If I am able to act upon my statement, I believe this will provide the best opportunity to thrive inside and out, as I enjoy serving others needs.

What are your goals for 2020?

For the year 2020, I wish to enjoy my last year of schooling alongside all my peers and teachers that I feel close with.

For yourself in your Captains role?

My personal goal as Collage Captain can be stretched over a vast variety of things- such as serving the greater good of others, ensuring inclusiveness and exploring new opportunities for the College. Despite these, the MOST important goal in my role is to improve my skills as a person. I understand that this role comes with many responsibilities, and many roads that I’ve never explored before. But I’m using them as learning opportunities and will hopefully turn them into useful skills.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

As a Year 12 student, learning to improve my mistakes will be a vital aspect this year. This is difficult for me because usually I avoid the mistakes I make, instead of learning from them. Thankfully this only applies to my school work, so I will work to seek advice and help from my teachers this year.

Personally?

This year, I will strive to remain healthy, internally and externally. Year 12 will have an impact on my mental and physical well-being slightly, which is normal. But I will do my best to overcome these obstacles and complete this year with a healthy mind and body.

What would you like your legacy to be for St. Peter’s College?

I would love to leave St. Peter’s knowing that we celebrate the vast diversity of our college, and that we can come together as a whole despite our differences.

What are you immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

Once completing my studies at St. Peters College, I plan to attend university and study Architecture. I will spend three years doing a Bachelors degree, then another two years completing my Masters. I am enormously excited for this part of my life as it has been my dream to become an architect since Year 9.

What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?

I would love to treat my parents to the holiday they deserve, to really commemorate the hard work they’ve put into giving me the best possible education. This may take a couple of years to save for, but it’s worth it. I hope to stay close with my family as I journey through life, they are my biggest supporters. After five years of university, I will have completed a Bachelors, Master’s of Architecture and on my way to the workforce. If I could acquire a job as an Architect, it would be a dream come true for me.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

St. Peter’s students, I believe you all have the potential to achieve great things in life, continue your hard work and you will succeed.
